Big things come in small packages.
It's an axiom that Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) hopes will hold true, as the "little guys" will be tasked with the duty of headlining the promotion's first major show of 2013.
UFC Flyweight Champion Demetrious Johnson will make his first-ever title defense when he takes on number one contender John Dodson at UFC on Fox 6. The title bout will serve as the main event for the newly announced card, which will take place LIVE from the United Center in Chicago, Ill., on Jan. 26, 2013.
The news comes by way of a report from FUEL TV and SB Nation journalist Ariel Helwani, during a segment on the Nov. 6, 2012 episode of "UFC Tonight."
Mixed martial arts (MMA) fans will recall that "Mighty Mouse" won his belt by defeating Joseph Benavidez via split decision when the two went toe-to-toe at UFC 152 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, on Sept. 22, 2012.
His challenger, "The Magician," earned the right to the first crack at the 125-pound belt by winning an impressive second round technical kncokout victory against UFC newcomer Jussier da Silva at UFC on FX 5 in Minneapolis, Minn., on Oct. 5, 2012.
In addition to the main event, the UFC on Fox 6 card is also expected to feature the long-awaited showdown between top Lightweight contenders Donald Cerrone and Anthony Pettis. It's a match up that has been "on-again-off-again," due largely in part to the health status of "Showtime."
