Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) will embark on the second of its seven-year, $90 million television deal with FOX when we ring-in 2013.
With five events already in the can, the world's leading mixed martial arts (MMA) promotion and one of the most powerful networks in the United States today announced their programming schedule for next year that features an event per-calendar quarter.
Check it out:
- UFC on FOX 6 on Jan. 26, 2013 (United Center in Chicago, Illinois)
- UFC on FOX 7 on April 20, 2013 (Location TBD)
- UFC on FOX 8 on July 27, 2013 (Location TBD)
- UFC on FOX 9 on Dec. 14, 2013 (Location TBD)
No bouts were announced for any of the events at press time. However, UFC President Dana White, naturally, promised "big things" were already in the works.
"2013 is shaping up to be a huge year for the UFC and we can't wait to bring more great fights to FOX!" said UFC president Dana White in a press release. "We're going to continue to take the UFC all over the world putting on the biggest and best fights. FOX is an amazing broadcast partner and we're going to do some big things next year."
UFC on FOX has had its share of growing pains, failing to deliver a breakout moment that will send the ratings over the top. It's clearly a work in progress that has shown signs of improvement with each show. And with a loaded UFC on FOX 5 event next month that features a world title fight between Ben Henderson vs. Nate Diaz that trend will hopefully continue well past the New Year.
Here's to hoping.
