Ricky Hatton attempted to make a successful return to boxing after more than three years away yesterday (Sat., Nov. 24, 2012) against Vyacheslav Senchenko in Manchester, England. After a valiant effort, he fell short.
After more than three years away from the sport -- a tumultuous time with many ups and downs that saw the once great boxer fall far from grace -- Ricky Hatton returned to the ring yesterday (Sat., Nov. 24, 2012) in his hometown of Manchester, England, to take on Vyacheslav Senchenko. And while he put forth a valiant effort, winning the early rounds and thrilling all those in attendance, eventually his time away caught up to him. His cardio simply wasn't there as the bout wore on and Senchenko took advantage, wearing Hatton down until he landed a vicious shot to the liver that put the Brit down for the count. Having attempted one last shot at glory, Hatton retired after an emotional post-fight interview that stretched the boundaries of taste. "I needed one more fight to see if I had still got it, and I haven't," he said. So long, Ricky, and good luck. For complete results and blow-by-blow coverage of the entire bout click here.
