Diego Sanchez revealed recently on his Twitter account that he may be in line to take on Takanori Gomi at the upcoming UFC on FUEL TV 8 event on March 2 in Japan.
Diego Sanchez, the talented but troubled Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) lightweight/welterweight, fought just once in 2011 and once in 2012.
Now, he's planning for his first fight in 2013.
"The Dream" revealed on his Twitter account recently that he's awaiting word from UFC Matchmaker Joe Silva on a potential bout against Takanori Gomi:
"Might have a fight lined up for March 2. Just waiting on the man Joe Silva to see if Mr. Fireball Kid takes it? #japan #yesyesyes."
Sanchez vs. Gomi in Japan on free TV?
Yes, please!
Diego has dealt with injury issues for most of the year, struggling through to get back to his prior successes. This after he dropped a close bout against Jake Ellenberger in February, a fight that ultimately led him to make the decision to drop back down to 155-pounds.
Considering how much the landscape in the lightweight division has changed since the last time he was there, it makes sense to give it one more go with a healthy and fresh outlook on his career.
Nothing is official at this time, of course, and it's entirely possible this fight doesn't come to fruition. Here's to hoping that's not the case. We'll be sure to keep you updated either way.
UFC on FUEL TV 8 is scheduled for Sat., March 2, 2012, at the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan. No fights have been announced for the card as of this time.
