Puerto Rican boxing legend and former world champion Hector "Macho" Camacho was declared brain dead earlier today after getting shot in the face in San Juan.
I know a lot of mixed martial arts (MMA) fans are also fans of the "sweet science," and I'm sure you won't be pleased to hear that Puerto Rican boxing legend Hector "Macho" Camacho was declared brain dead by his doctor earlier today after getting shot in the face in San Juan.
From ABC News:
Camacho was rushed to the Rio Piedras Medical Center in San Juan last night after a gunman shot him in the face while he was in his car with a friend near a shopping mall in the town of Bayamón.
Torres said that a bullet aimed at Camacho's face, was deflected by his jaw, and made it's way to the top of the boxer's spinal chord, which means that if Camacho survives he could have trouble walking, or may even be paralyzed.
The video above is a live feed outside his hospital where his condition is being updated in real-time.
Camacho claimed world titles in the Super Featherweight, Lightweight, and Light Welterweight divisions and is perhaps best known for knocking out Sugar Ray Leonard, in addition to beating Roberto Duran. We'll keep you updated on his condition as soon as more information becomes available.
Stay tuned.
