Former heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson talks about his love for mixed martial arts and UFC. In addition, "Kid Dynamite" says he would have been a cage fighter had his trainers been into MMA rather than boxing. Tyson in four ounce gloves? Yikes.
If anybody knows what it means to be "cool," it's a man with a giant tattoo splattered across his face.
Former heavyweight boxing champion and one-time "Baddest man on the planet," Mike Tyson, has been a fan of mixed martial arts (MMA) since its inception. In fact, his favorite fighter of all time is none other than ex-PRIDE deity Fedor Emelianenko.
And Tyson (via ESPN), ignoring his previous salary critique, can even envision a scenario where he became an Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) fighter rather than a pugilist:
"When I came up, my trainer was a boxing guy. If my guy was in UFC, I’d probably go that way... I love UFC, big time. How could you not be? They play UFC so much, you see it year round, and you just have to want to be a fan. If you’re not a fan, you’re not cool. I think some young kids may think that in boxing you’re so restricted with just your punching power and your hand speed. In natural fighting, anything goes; you’re not restricted at all. Anything on your body is a weapon. I don’t disagree with that. Wouldn’t you like to have more than just your hands to fight with? You know how I feel; I got into a fight and bit Evander’s ear off. I didn’t plan to do it, that’s just how the mind thinks in that situation. I would love to do that stuff."
Imagine a prime Tyson with little four ounce gloves?
Yikes.
"Kid Dynamite" was one of the best fighters on the planet prior to his rape conviction in 1992. That, coupled with a handful of high-profile losses, began a downward spiral that ended in ear-biting, face tattoos and bankruptcy. And a cameo in The Hangover!
Now that's cool.
