I know. This is about three days late. But wow. Seriously. Wow. This past Tuesday, Sons of Anarchy presented to us what I feel to be one of the best episodes of the entire series. I didn't really know how to explain the episode to ViolentMike, all I could say was "A lot of crap happens."
I'm not even sure where to begin. The last episode ended with two major events that tie into this episode. The Sons were ran off the road by van full of unknown assailants, which resulted in one of their attackers, a black guy, being killed. And Gemma, in her normal messed up state, crashing her SUV into a tree. With her two grandsons in the backseat. Before the episode is over, the camera focuses in on Abel, who looks to be bloodied, not moving. Poo is about to hit the fan.
In episode 8, we luckily find out that Abel is going to be alright, but that brings up a huge issue involving Jax, Gemma, and Tara. Possibly Wendy down the road. Jax and Tara are shown, obviously upset at Gemma, but it looks like Clay is going to save the day by lying to Jax about the circumstances of her accident and (groan) stretching this story-line out for at least another episode.
Fortunately, Nero spills the beans to Jax about all of this, and puts an end to Clay's lie, and Gemma's involvement with the children. Nero also has his issues with Clay, where we see a quick but interesting back and forth between Clay and Nero, but also Jax, who's only partnership concern was having the Sons business end up on his lap. Which is exactly what happens.
Frankie shows up again, this time with greed and a gun, which results in Frankie leaving with Nero's money, along with Chibs as a hostage. Poor Lyla gets shot in the leg, and a rift begins to form between Jax and Nero. Frankie does get away, but he at least he doesn't make things even worse for himself by killing Chibs. He just knocks him and leaves him for dead. Not much better, but maybe he'll only get cut up into 20 pieces and not 10.
I feel Clay's attempt to cover for Gemma was caused by two things. As messed up as he is, he really does love Gemma, and two, which I will focus on right now, an attempt to blackmail Gemma. What better way to get Gemma back then covering up something this big. As I said before, Clay didn't get the chance to continue with this. But sadly, it looks like he has Juice under his belt. He convinces Juice to open up all about what took place last season. His dad being black, stealing the brick, killing Miles, and of course, being a rat. Clay puts on his "concerned" look, opens up about leading Gogo and Greg to Unsers house and nothing more, and there it is. Juice opens up everything while Clay misleads Juice, and now Clay owns Juice. To make things even worse for Juice, Eli is ready to spill the beans himself.
But before all hope is lost, Clay may not get away with all of this. Jax knows that Clay lied about Gemma, and he knows Clay used the Nomads to do these attacks to make him look bad. But our boy Jax comes up with a plan of his own, and he starts to do his own share of manipulating. He knows Clay's biggest weakness is Gemma, and he's prepared to use that. Long story short, Gemma will go go back to Clay. Sleep with him, pretend to love him, anything to get info out of Clay. I feel this won't do anything to help things between Clay and Nero, just something else to look forward to.
Sorry this is a novel, but as I said, so much crap happens. And I don't think this even covers it all. Hands were cut off, a body flies off a building, and Gemma gets punched in the face by someone not named Clay.
