When Martin Kampmann takes on Johny Hendricks at UFC 154 this Saturday night in Montreal, it may be for the next shot at the winner of Georges St. Pierre vs. Carlos Condit. "The Natural Born Killer" recently spoke with Mike Bohn for MMAmania.com about the possible outcome and shared his thoughts below.
With so much focus squarely on the UFC 154 main event between Georges St. Pierre vs. Carlos Condit, a lot of people are forgetting the event also has a meaningful bout in the co-main event with the match up between Johny Hendricks vs. Martin Kampmann.
Depending on how a number of situations shake out, Hendricks vs. Kampmann could very well determine the next number one contender in the UFC welterweight division.
Considering Hendricks or Kampmann could be fighting the winner of St. Pierre vs. Condit not long down the road, the headliners of the Nov. 17 pay-per-view (PPV) in Montreal have a vested interest in how the co-main event plays out.
Condit, especially, sees Hendricks vs. Kampmann as an important contest for the division in which ‘Bigg Rigg' is the more threatening fighter.
"Hendricks is very, very dangerous," Condit told MMAmania.com. "You know his striking is very powerful, pretty unorthodox and you know I know that he's got a pretty prestigious wrestling background."
Condit has never shared the cage with Hendricks; he has, however, traded leather with Kampmann. ‘The Hitman' defeated Condit by split decision at UFC Fight Night 18 in April of 2009.
Condit wouldn't admit if the fight he's fought Kampmann in the past skews his vision of the bout, but regardless, ‘The Natural Born Killer' is predicting his former foe to pull off the victory.
"I think Kampmann has the experience and the depth as far as his knowledge and his skill to pull off that fight. I would probably put my money on Kampmann."
UFC 154: "St. Pierre vs. Condit" goes down Saturday, Nov. 17, 2012, from the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
