Legendary Brazilian banger Wanderlei Silva gives an update on when he'll likely return to the cage for his next bout and at what weight class said bout will be in.
The last time we saw Wanderlei Silva, he was losing a spirited five-round unanimous decision against Rich Franklin in a catchweight bout back on June 23, 2012, at UFC 147 in Brazil. The loss put him at 3-7 in his last 10 fights but fans came away believing the legendary Brazilian still has some fight left in him yet.
He's taking some time off now, enjoying a vacation from the grind of training camps and getting punched in the face and what not, but he's got a plan for his return.
Silva told Sherdog.com, he wants to come back next year in a new weight class:
"I want to either fight a catchweight bout at 198 pounds or at light heavyweight. At middleweight, I'm very hungry (laughs). Right now, I'm doing weight training and some shadow boxing. I'm kind of on vacation now, paying attention to the family, but next year the Wand is back."
"The Axe Murderer" was actually 2-1 in his short run at 185-pounds, with the loss to Franklin coming at a 190-pound catchweight. Despite his success in the smaller class, Silva wants to head back up to swim with the sharks at light heavyweight. But against who?
"Actually, anyone they offer is good for me. I'll face whomever the UFC wants."
