Sometimes, moving up means moving out.
Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) featherweight Dustin Poirier has left the Gladiators Academy in South Louisiana to join the established mixed martial arts (MMA) stars at American Top Team (ATT) in Coconut Creek, Florida, home to several current and former Octagon veterans.
Our own SB Nation Tampa Bay recently confirmed the switch.
Poirier is coming off a main event loss to Chan Sung Jung at UFC on FUEL TV 3 last May at the Patriot Center in Fairfax, Virginia. "The Diamond" was cut down in the fourth round by "The Korean Zombie," who not only split a "Fight Night" jackpot with the "Fightville" star, but also kept one all to himself with his "Submission of the Night."
That was then. This is now.
The promotion's 145-pound division continues to expand following the recent influx of former lightweight fighters. Chief among them are Frankie Edgar and Clay Guida, who hope to insert themselves into "the mix" in the very near future.
Where do you put Poirier in the featherweight division -- and who do you think he should fight next?
