So Glover Teixeira's pretty good at this whole professional fighting thing, huh?
That was the scouting report before he ever made his way to Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) earlier this year in May. The few who knew of him spoke highly of his skills but he was severely underexposed.
That changed at UFC 146 when he rocked and socked Kyle Kingsbury on the way to a first round submission victory. Suddenly, he was on the map but still relatively low key. He was matched up against a disgruntled Quinton Jackson but once he dropped out, the quest to find him a new opponent yielded an interesting result.
Essentially, no one wanted to fight him. That includes elite names like former champions Mauricio Rua and Rashad Evans. Eventually, the promotion found a taker in Fabio Maldonado and as we witnessed at last night's (Sat., Oct. 13, 2012) UFC 153: "Silva vs. Bonnar" event in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, he was blown out of the cage after taking a brutal beating.
Bad enough for the doctor to step in and stop it between rounds.
So what's next? He told the FUEL TV post show he wants a big name guy. You know, one who will actually agree to accept a fight against him.
"I should fight somebody that's well know. They keep telling me I don't have enough tweeter follows or whatever else they tell me that I'm not proving myself. You see the fights I've had in UFC, this one was pretty tough but I dominated the fight. So, I don't know, man, I think I should fight somebody in that level, the big name guys."
Well, Maniacs, who is the big name guy that makes sense for him?
