It may have come together late but the last time Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira fought in front of his countrymen in Brazil, he scored a shocking first round knockout. Can he pull it off again against Dave Herman at UFC 153?
It's been just over a year since Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira fought in front of his fellow countrymen, the first time he had done so in over 40 career fights, back at UFC 134.
At that event, "Minotauro" scored a shocking first round knockout of Brendan Schaub in his first bout back after a year and a half layoff. It was an amazing story at the time, a feel-good tale of a legendary heavyweight thought to be on his last legs proving he still had some gas left in the tank after all.
In the main event that night? Anderson Silva, who knocked out Yushin Okami to retain his middleweight title.
Now, both men return to the scene at the HSBC Arena in similar situations. "The Spider" is still the pound-for-pound kind and he's expected to blow out his opponent in the main event, Stephen Bonnar.
Nogueira, meanwhile, is coming off another long layoff due to injury, this one suffered during his devastating loss to Frank Mir at UFC 140 in Toronto. There are once again questions regarding how much he has left in him after such a long and successful career.
He'll get the chance to show just what he's got left against Dave Herman in the co-main event. Another surprising knockout coming? Or perhaps a vintage "Big Nog" submission?
Stay tuned.
