Veteran referees Herb Dean and "Big" John McCarthy have been tapped to call the UFC on FOX 2 main card bouts this Saturday night in Chicago. Rookie ref Rob Madrigal will also get his feet wet on the big stage for the UFC on FUEL TV Prelims.

I wouldn't be so worried about it with Big John.......
but thank god it’s not Dan Miragliotta. I can’t believe how quickly he was jumping in when AJ was fighting Vitor a few weeks ago. Considering how pissed of the UFC brass was at AJ for missing weight, I can’t help but wonder if anyone “enclouraged” Miragliotta to stand em up quickly…….

but it’s only good that they stand them back up quickly. If fighters can’t handle a fast pace and physical fight maybe they should step down in competition.

That’s got nothing to do with it……just because the fight goes to the ground doesn’t mean it’s not a fast paced or physical fight. I agree that if a fighter is laying and praying (ie. Guida) they should be stood up immediately…..but if a ground fighter is constantly bringing down punches and elbows, and is trying to improve his position, the referee has to let that continue. I’m not making excuses for AJ because I think he’s a jackass for missing weight, but those guys were stood up way too early. If they guy on the bottom doesn’t like it, don’t get taken down…….

Both have ref’d title fights and main event fights alike…Big John was absent for a while though and Herb was holding it down…but Herb has been under fire lately for performances like the Barry/Morecraft fight…BUT Big John was also a little late in the Jones/Machida fight…hmmm

Not worried about Herb or John
but the other guy worries me. Illinois is known for piss poor judging and officiating. Their AC is crap too.
