Alistair Overeem is going down.
That's according to Junior dos Santos' longtime coach and mentor, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, who tells Brazilian media outlet Tatame.com that the Ultimate Fighting Championship's (UFC) newest heavyweight champion is going to bury the number one contender once the fists start flying.
"Cigano wins via knockout, I’m sure of that. He’s a lot faster, knows how to move, he won’t get that knee, and he’s much more complete and has much more stamina, and that’ll make a great difference. Overeem has never defeated someone as big as Cigano. Alistair Overeem is a lot bigger, stronger, more explosive, but not big enough to beat Junior dos Santos."
In this "striker vs. striker" match-up, many point to the different stand-up styles each fighter possesses.
For "The Reem," it’s the highest level of kickboxing and for "Cigano," it’s superb boxing. Both skillsets have earned the two heavyweights world championship titles but when locked inside a cage under the UFC banner for the division strap, whose style of striking will prevail?

His peak-a-boo style is much more effective in K1 with the big ass gloves than the little mma gloves.
While I’m not sure who’s gonna knock who out in the JDS-reem fight, but you just can’t write off his win against Lesnar, that’s not fair. It’s easy to shit on him afterwards but I remember a whole bunch of fans predicting that the reem would lose and he didn’t.
We will see if he’s for real against JDS, if he wins, no doubt about it that he’s one of the greatest. But calling the reem a fraud is just plain stupid, he already proved to the people that he’s no joke.

Junior is not losing this fight. You’re going to see the big difference hand speed makes. Reem is a one strike power punch/kicker. JDS is going to be lighting him up while Reem throws a strike. Reem is going out, asleep.

So Reem can stand in there against the great striking of K1 fighters but can’t against JDS? Ok.
I think JDS would be smart to mix it up and shoot some takedown attempts to keep Reem off balance and tire him out. Bad idea to strike with him, especially in the first two rounds. One uberknee or short hook and the fight could be over. Once Reem is gassed and loses his striking power, then standing with him would be more strategically sound.

We’ll have to see what it looks like when he’s fighting a healthy wrestler. That’s the thing about the guy, he’s the champ and almost undefeated, yet he hasn’t really faced a guy who can wrestle.

anyone calling Cain over hyped is an idiot. The fucking dude took a shot behind the ear. lost his equilibrium, and a very talented opponent took advantage by swarming on him. Overeem can land a shot, but I don’t see it. JDS is faster and way more technical. He throws in combination where Overeem throws single big shots. Not a good match up for Alistair.

Jds has a little bit better hands but I wouldn’t say he throws combos I’ve only seen him throw simple combos like 1-2 shots overeem has just as accurate strikes as he does I would say they are about even with the speed and technical strikes.

Cain/JDS was so bittersweet for me personally, and just a complete letdown for all the people I invited over to see a great fight.

Maybe writing him off was not the best choice of words
That being said, I think JDS will take it easy and will counter allot on Overeem, making him think twice before attacking and once it goes to the 2nd round JDS will unleash the combo’s. I think this will be his gameplan because Overeem tends to be agressive in the first round.
If JDS has an awesome preformance I think he should be ranked 5th in the p4p list.

He seemed to have lost alot of power after the halfway mark of 2nd round .
Going 3 rounds against guys that are on the retreat is a bit easier than going three rounds standing against reem .

I agree that’s why I think jds is the type of fighter that is dangerous for a period of time but can be beaten if you can weather the storm because he does gas and I think overeem is going to be alot more harder to hit since he can move fast and is more explosive than cain.

I believe Reem takes this one.
I think he’ll land several knees to the body while in a clinch and that will slow Junior down and open him up for a finish. Plus, at Reems level of striking, a 3 or 4 inch reach advantage can play a factor!
