First of all, my apologies to the free poolers for not being able to post this on time. I was waiting for thunder to do his thing but since 2 days have already passed, I will have to assume that he is busy in real life.
Second, congratulations big time to Rolandando, a proud Free Pool alumni, who scored a whopping 96 points to lead the pack in the Money Pool. Keep up the Good Work. ItalianStallion54 also deserve our accolades for performing well and remaining in the Top 5 of the Money Pool. Keep up the good work brothers.
Although we cannot outperform the Money Poolers, we scored decently for this event. First place is new member tr8k who scored 79 points. He did it by going 8/10 only missing picks on Rivera and Habib. He also got 22 points by correctly calling Pineda by submission in the first round and getting full points on Camoes, Denis, and Brenneman. Good work lurker :)
Second is perennial lagger marcbjr2 who miraculously get the second spot this event by scoring 72 points. He got 8 out of 10 and got full points on Habib, Rivera, Denis and Easton. His love affair with Pat Scilling costed him 22 points though. Congratulations still marc. :)
Third, and not surprising because he is always a contender, is Mrgrapplefan who scored 72 points as well. He got full points on Barry and Brenneman. He also got 14 points on the hot bout.
BrizzleT gets the "bottom dweller of the event" award after scoring only 33 points despite picking every fight. He got full points on Miller, Barry and Rivera. Nothing to be ashamed of though as you scored better than sarah!
Another good news is that the Mighty Choro improved and scored 51 points after scores of 26 and 41. Getting in the groove eh Choro?

whats the method to your guys madness when making picks? Been watching since UFC 1, I think I know everything about almost everybody but for one reason or the other am just in the middle of the pack for points. Was the same way when the UFC had their fantasy league. It made me crazy to a point :)

I research and read and really try hard to get my picks right, It was the same in the UFC fanatsy league. I feel as though Ive had one bad showing and I havent even cracked the top 3 yet. It blows me away when guys get 90+ points on a regular basis, actually it doesnt blow me away it makes me wonder? Its just to hard to do it regularily. These picks are not a lock, there is to much guess work to consistently get points that high. Getting the winner right is one thing but the method and the round is just to unsure to always be up there, IMO. I put alot into my picks and expect to finish high every event. Im always left wondering how so many other people score so high and I cant seem to lol! Im not new to this.

Keep in mind this is only the 3rd event. IIRC, the money pool winner last season had 612 points. Expect averages to start to go down with the next event (at least in the money pool)

I am basing my comments on the first three events here and about 4 years of fantasy picking on the UFC website. It was basically the same template, winner, round, method. Same thing there, could never finish high in any event and got smoked regularily. It blows me away that so many other people can score so high on a regular basis, it just seems so hard to consistently do, that it seems a little funky to me sometimes. Anyways I thought I would ask you guys if there is a method to you making picks.
there are certain rules that should be followed.
1. try not to pick a fighter making their UFC debut
2. wrestlers usually beat standup fighters, unless it’s Jose Aldo
3. Don’t pick based off of emotions, just cause you don’t like Bisping doesn’t mean you shouldn’t pick him over a fighter not ranked in the top 50.
4. Beware of fighters moving weight classes for the first time.
5. The higher ranked fighter usually wins

just the standard criteria. Forgot to mention guys getting called up on short notice, they always throw a wrench into the decision as well. We’ve seen it before, now and then they will show up on a weeks notice and win :) Anyways its fun and frustrating for me, feel like I have a ton of knowledge about MMA and a good chunk of the fighters, just want to finish higher eh! :) Aldo’s a freak, he chumped Chad and Chad aint no chump lol!

Good scores all round, thanks for the kind words Phase, I appreciate the exaggeration brother. This years pool is tougher and if I repeat last years performance then i’ll drop down pretty soon.
On that point, Heelhook it’s definitely consistency. In the 50s for every event and at least 1 high point performance should make you in contention even if it doesn’t look like you’re killing it with scores around 50.
Do you plan on joining the moneypool next season?

I was going in this year. The paypal thing put me off if I’m honest. Freepool better for me financially but 20 dollars (about 14 pound for me) is nothing for 2/3 months of fun and I’m more than glad to pad out the prize for the winners pockets.
I’ll keep my eye out for next season and see what’s what.

for Lentz in his fight against Dunham. Regardless of how boring he is the kids a beast in there, IMO there is no Underdog in this fight.
