Report: UFC guns down weapons-related sponsors

Guns don't sponsor people. Carefully approved companies with deep pockets sponsor people.
That might be the unfortunate truth for mixed martial artists competing on the dollar of The Gun Store and Ammotogo.com. That's because ZUFFA, the parent company of Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), is reportedly moving forward with a ban on all weapons-related sponsors.
That's according to a report from The MMA Corner:
Although the UFC's seven-year deal with Fox is still in its infancy, the effects of the deal are beginning to trickle through the MMA world.
The MMA Corner has learned from sources close to the situation that the latest impact is that guns and ammunition sponsors, such as The Gun Store and Ammotogo.com, have been banned from events that take place on the Fox family of networks.
*UPDATE * - The MMA Corner has learned that the ban includes companies related to guns, knives, ammunition, and hunting. It will go into effect on Jan. 23. The ban has been extended to all UFC events, not just those broadcast on the Fox family of networks.
Rat-tat-tat-tat, tat-tat-ta like that, and they never hesitate to put a sponsor on its back.
A ban on weapon-related sponsors could be a mighty blow to a good chunk of the UFC roster, including both established veterans and up-and-coming prospects.
It's not an usual for a UFC fighter to thank The Gun Store, like Martin Kampmann (veteran) did in this interview, just like Cody McKenzie (up-and-comer) did right here in his.
They're also responsible for a litany of UFC-related videos, like this one.
So how about it Maniacs, is this simply the cost of doing business? Softening the promotion's associations as it slowly creeps into the mainstream via the FOX network?
Or a slap in the face to supporters who helped get them there?

You want to go mainstream you have to comply to mainstream. 1st sponsors then speech then Fox will start editing content for too much blood, too much violence, too many broken bones, etc…We will be getting more UFC but only a water-down version. Spike was perfect because they were willing to let that stuff fly Fox I don’t think they will.

An ASVAB score of 36 is passing now, that’s 36 out of 100. I saw so many people on the graduation field in basic that did not to deserve to be there it was unreal. Couldn’t shoot for shit, couldn’t do the required P.T. etc.. they just want bullet shields.

Yea Shivan it’s heavily dependant on what the world scene is. During Iraq, no one wanted to join. So then standards go lower. When people are joining left and right because there is no wars ( damn pansies ) , standards go way up because they just need to keep their quota.

General wear on bluing, take out the barrel and hold it to light. Do you see any scratches, copper fouling, or pitting? If so, move on. On a 1911 look out for the “idiot mark” above the trigger it
ll be a half moon scratch from “idiots” too hastily replacing the slide release. Also a good indicator of the previous owner’s attention do detail and care.
Dry fire and make sure nothing it hanging up.

I can't find any state website with gun laws
other than ccw permit process. i can find lots of third party website describing the legality, but not a state website. the link i gave shows they are legal, and if you don’t believe me just give a call to a local gun shop. they will tell you the same. sorry i could not find specific statute.

Gun training is something passed down to you from a family member typically.
I shot my first .22 at age 5. My first muzzleloader at age 8. My first .357 and .410 shotgun at age 10.
I grew up with guns and learned to respect them. it is easy when you see the death that guns can cause (to animals).

owning a gun, to me, is about self-defense. As is martial arts.
Example: Krav Magha (sp?) It teaches to end the fight as quickly as possible, hopefully with a gun.
Most martial arts were invented before the wide-spread usage of gunpowder (judo, karate, TKD, etc), or were created for those situations when you were out of ammo (sambo, krav magha)

I never said it was an art. I said it was self-defense. One of the many options for self-defense that are available. If somoeone’s solution to self-defense is to go out, buy a gun, and put it in their closet, “just in case”, I would recommend that they buy pepper spray instead. Cheaper, easier to use and as effective for their purposes.

My first archery instructor was a national level competition shooter (.22 pistols). He benched 400 pounds, could run a 5 minute mile, and used to bike 50 miles in a day. He also used to spar (boxing) for 10- 5 minute rounds. The 5 or so competitions I went to, everyone was in that kind of shape, or very close.
You can’t tell me that every UFC fighter is in shape. the number of guys that gas is atrocious for this level.

Fox/UFC believes that no gun sponsors will equal growing the sport with more fans/money in the future. They could make the case that the increased revenue would trickle down to the actual fighters.

Things you must do in order to go mainstream
Leaving my personal opinions about guns and gun control aside. I assume all of us here want MMA and the UFC to get the notoriety that it deserves. Its easy for us to forget that most people think UFC is a sport or that TNT, MMA, UFC, and WWE all stand for the same thing. In order to appeal to the mainstream advertisers, you have to advertise things that are not controversial. Sorry, but guns, ammo and hunting, like it or not, are controversial – Supporting the military is not. While the UFC was (maybe still is for a while more), it was able use controversial advertisers but in order to take the next step and not be considered a bunch of “tattooed blood thirsty animals” or whatever crap they think out there, you have to make concessions.

While I was watching the Football game yesterday I kept thinking about that guy (cant remember who it was) on TV that said MMA fighters are all tattooed (as if that’s not okay). I think I counted about 10 people on the field that didnt have visible tattoos and those were the coaches. So the “clean cut – okay to watch” football players can have tattoos and are not considered inbred blood thirsty lowlifes?

I got a good city job here, and guys like me are very lucky to get a good job. Although now, I’m a good citizen and can keep a job, I still wouldn’t risk it. Family as well. About to make 85k a year in a year or two, that’s pretty good money if you can get a house a little upstate of NYC.
