It's not uncommon for today's professional athlete, in the aftermath of a big win, to give honor to God, Jesus Christ, or whatever other deity they've given their life to.
Not Chael Sonnen.
It isn't because the former UFC middleweight number one contender is an atheist. Quite the contrary. The "God-fearing man" just doesn't believe the almighty Lord has the time to take out of his job of controlling the universe to worry about whether or not Chael wins a cage fight.
Here Sonnen explain it to MMA Fighting:
"You know, these guys want to talk about God. 'Oh, I want to thank God. I want to thank God.' Listen, I'm a God-fearing man, go to church every Sunday and have since I was a boy. But if I ever found out that God cared one way or another about a borderline illegal fist-fight on Saturday night, I would be so greatly disappointed that it would make rethink my entire belief system."
We recently learned that WWE wrestler CM Punk won't be joining Sonnen for a trip to the Octagon this Saturday night (Jan. 28, 2012) when he takes on Michael Bisping at the UFC on FOX 2 event in Chicago, Illinois.
And according to Sonnen's belief system, neither will God.
