Anderson Silva's Resume of Finishes

20090810014236_img_5346_medium

via cdn1.sbnation.com

The Biggest Arsenal of Weapons in MMA belongs to none other than Anderson "The Spider" Silva. Anderson is a Black Belt in Muay Thai, Tae Kwon Do, Judo, and Jiu-Jitsu along with being a Yellow Rope in Capoeira and a Professional Boxer in his home country of Brazil. Silva is 31-4 in MMA with 18 wins via TKO/KO and 6 via SUB, currently on a 15 fight win streak with 14 of those victories coming in the UFC and only 2 fights in that streak reaching the Judge's scorecards.

He also has the widest array of finishes by any MMA Fighter in history using Punches, Knees, Elbows, And Kicks with deadly accuracy and equally deadly power.

Follow me after the Jump as I show you Further Proof and lots of Gifs

Star-divide

Lets start with his hands which in my opinion being his biggest offensive weapon, here are just some of the people that have crumbled from "The Spider's" first two limbs

Punches-

Vs. James Irving- Anderson Silva's Debut at 205 lbs went like most of his Debuts go ending in under a minute and a half (Pride and UFC Debuts) when he caught an attempted leg kick by Irvin and Blasted him with a Straight Right hand and a few Follow up Punches on the Ground

10000373_medium

via 3.bp.blogspot.com

Vs. Forrest Griffin- In Anderson's second trip to the 205 lbs. weight class he made a Former Champ look like an Amateur, Utilizing Roy Jones-Esque head movement and strikes including the Right Hook (Gif 1) and "Walk Away Jab" (Gif 2) to finish the fight.

Anderson-silva_forrest-griffin_62412_medium

via www.411mania.com

Vs. Yushin Okami 2- In front of his Countrymen Silva would put on another Pugilistic Display of Greatness, rocking the Japanese Standout with an "Anchor Punch" [Gif 1] (Coined by Muhammed Ali, a Jab that comes from near your hip with your hands down) and finishing him with a "Shovel Hook" (a Punch that is half way Between an Uppercut and a Standard Hook, striking at a 45 degree angle) Sorry no Gif for this one.

There is an Awesome Judo Chop done by Fraser Coffeen at Bloody Elbow on The "Anchor Jab", Silva vs Okami 2 and Silva vs Griffin go to it here UFC 134: Rio Judo Chop - Anderson Silva, Muhammad Ali, and the Anchor Punch

The Most Under Utilized strike while standing is often said to be the jab or the leg kick but i say Different

Elbows-

Vs. Tony Fryklund- In his last fight before being signed to the UFC he Unleashed One of The Greatest KO's Ever and the Craziest Elbow Strike of all Time a Muay Boran Back Elbow (An Elbow thrown with the lead arm backwards arcing up like an Uppercut) *Jaw Dropping*

Silvaelbow_medium_medium

via assets.sbnation.com

Another great Judo Chop this time by Kid Nate go to it here Judo Chop: Anderson Silva Lands a Muay Boran Back Elbow

Vs. Travis Lutter- a Non-Title Middleweight fight because the contender missed weight. Anderson had Lutter locked in a triangle for what seemed like forever until a Series of Elbows brought the Tap. (Again Sorry No Gif or Video Available)

Vs. Chael Sonnen- While this fight ended by submission Anderson still landed a viscous Over hand Elbow to Rock Sonnen

Hs2epw_medium

via i52.tinypic.com

The Most Feared Part of "The Spider's" Game is his Knees either in the Thai Clinch or at Striking Range he can end your night quickly

Knees-

Vs. Carlos Newton- At Pride 25 in his 3rd fight in pride, Silva faced former UFC welterweight champion Carlos Newton. Newton tried to shoot in on Silva, but was hit with a flying knee and Newton collapsed and sliva finishes him with Punches

10000253_medium

via imgboot.com

Vs. Rich Franklin 1 & 2- In only his second fight in the UFC he is given a title shot, Beating the champ with an Array of strikes but the majority of the damage was done in the Thai Clinch with Devastating Knees that broke Franklins Nose and Started his own Title Reign (Gif 1 &2). When they would Rematch Franklin would show a lot of improvement in his Clinch Defense but to no Avail as it would end with same Knees (Gif 3)

Vs. Chris Leben- In his UFC Debut he would dispatch Iron-Chinned Chris Leben in just :49 seconds with 100% striking accuracy but it was the Knee that ended it

via cdn0.sbnation.com

Last but not least are the Feet of "The Spider"

Kicks-

Silvaokami_medium

via i62.photobucket.com

Vs. Alex Stiebling- Just over a minute into his Pride Debut he landed a nearly Picture Perfect Head Kick and the Doctor stopped the fight due to the cut on stieblings head

Qycz2s_jpg_medium

via i32.tinypic.com

Vs. Vitor Belfort- the 2011 KO of the Year across every major MMA Publication, against one of the most feared strikers of all time made it clear he is the greatest striker in MMA's short but great History with a Front Kick to the jaw followed up by punches to finish off the future UFC hall of Famer

10001720_medium

via 2.bp.blogspot.com

Muay Thai is Known as "The Art of 8 Limbs" (2 fist, 2 elbows, 2 knees, 2 feet) and Anderson Silva is the Epitome of that with Wins with all methods and scalps of top tier fighters with different appendages.

  • The Right hand has claimed Forrest Griffin, James Irvin, and Yushin Okami the second time plus more
  • The Right Elbow put Tony Fryklund out cold, made Travis Lutter tapout, and dropped Chael Sonnen
  • Both the right and the left knee have laid waste to Carlos Newton, Chris Leben, and Rich Franklin (Twice) and others
  • Vitor Belfort, Alex Stiebling, and Yushin Okami have all had their nights end early due to Silva's feet and shins

Silva Holds the UFC Records for Most Consecutive Wins (14), Title Defenses(9), Most Title Fight wins(10), Best winning Percentage (1000%), Significant Striking Accuracy (68.5%), Most Knockdowns landed (15), and Longest Title reign (By the time he defends his title in June it will have elapsed over 2,000 days of him on top).

One last note: Anderson is a Southpaw and has never KO'd somebody with his left hand or left elbow, hell I don't even Remember him rocking or dazing somebody with it (Straight Left KO vs. Sonnen this June???)

In closing Anderson Silva In My Opinion is the Greatest MMA Fighter of All Time even if he should lose his title in the near Future, and is the Greatest Striker in MMA History with this incredible Resume of Finishes

What do you think?

I would love to see it

If they both keep cleaning out their division’s I think the UFC could offer Silva the chance to become the only man in the UFC to hold Two belts in Two weight classes simultaneously for his final fight and Retire on top!
If Silva loses to Jones he just passes the torch if he loses to Sonnen, Henderson, Belfort or anybody else it just tarnishes his Legacy. anyways I dont see this fight Happenning

GREAT POST!!!!

I would love to see Silva/Jones too, but the size dif is way way off. Plus the wrestling of Jones is nuts, would be suicide. If the fight stayed standing then no doubt Anderson wins, but imo Bones doesn’t keep it standing very long. If the mediocre wrestlers at 185 can take him down then surely so can Bones. And Bones is so big and strong I can see him not being subbed. Hell I’m one of the biggest Silva fans going and wouldn’t put it past him winning, but would be fine with this fight not happening.
Fun read! Always love reading and learnig new things about the greattest MMAer that’s ever lived!!!

Anderson Silva is by far the number one P4P king!!! But now Tito is closing in! lol Maybe not, but I'm so fn happy that he beat Bader! The excuses were really getting to me, but when he wins, we don't hear about them.

LMAO! A few misteps here, Mike!

Some great gifs there, but I wouldn’t use Okami as an example. Yes, Silva ended the fight with a kick, but he LOST. It was a blatantly illegal kick that ended in Silva being justifiably DISQUALIFIED. If you want to use that as an example of how Silva “ends” fights, more power to ya! See my “Champion vs Champion” thread for a breakdown on Silva’s greatest talent, avoiding fights altogether!

Also the Stiebling gif is funny because that kick doesn’t knock Steibling out, it ends with Stiebling eating the kick and turning it into a beautiful takedown that put Silva on his ass! I love it!

then celebrate his RNC against Hendo rather than his wussing out with a blatant foul the moment Okami had him on his back.

I mean, if you’re gonna call getting yourself disqualified “finishing with strikes” then hell, Gilbert Yvel is the biggest finisher in MMA. He finished his fight against Don Frye by performing ocular surgery with his thumbs. Betcha Silva never used that strike. And Yvel finished one fight by KOing the referee! I don’t see that on Andy’s resume! So I guess Yvel is really the most diversified finisher in MMA, not Silva.

As a martial artist Silva has legitimately used his tools to finish from the back

That’s impressive. Just because I think Jones doesn’t show class by fouling people doesn’t mean i’m not going to celebrate his 12 to 6 elbows as a weapon when talking about effective martial arts.

The Yvel comparison … yeah, it’s combat, yay (my enthusiasm about him, not your comment). It’s a good point i’ll admit but it’s much closer to the complete extreme.

great breakdown

i love the fact that as a southpaw and as such a great striker he has never finished anyone w/ his left hand. he really is just that good.

What ever happens

I want the UFC to make the most of the rest of Silva’s career . It would be a tragedy to waste him on guys like Bisping and Munoz . In a perfect world we would see him wreck the 205’s for a year or 2 . I think he might be able to beat Jones .

I think he could probably beat Bones

But we’ll never know cause Anderson won’t touch that fight with a 10 foot pole. Although Anderson walks around at 6’2" and 220+ lbs, he’s too busy calling out Welterweights and mid-level MWs like Bisping to even think about fighting someone his own size like Shogun, let alone a monster like Bones. Ducking Sonnen & Hendo is a full-time job, don’t make the man have to duck Bones too!

EVERYONE cuts weight!!!

And it doesn’t matter what he walks around at bc Bones is so much bigger than him! And it’s not like he hasn’t fought guys bigger than him before. There are fighters who are much bigger in their division than Silva.

I agree that Bones is bigger than Silva and that’s not an even matchup. But the size difference between Bones and Silva isn’t as big as the difference between Silva and GSP, yet Silva’s fans (and managers) are always screaming for that matchup because in that one, their boy has the advantage. But I’m talking about perfectly fair even matchups like Silva vs Shogun, Machida, Rashad, Rampage…those guys are much closer to Anderson’s size than most of the guys he’s fought at 185.

yes he is

But Bones made those guys look like Chihuahua’s attacking a Doberman. Those weren’t even matchups either. I’m not saying Andy isn’t big enough for LHW, he definitely is. I’m saying Bones is too big for 205. Andy should be at 205 and Bones should be at HW.

His left hand is weak.

I think it’s a weakness. He usually stretches it out to stabilise his opponent while striking with his right. This means he throws only half the punches he could, and loses many scoring opportunities.

by Motmaitre on Jan 22, 2012 4:51 PM EST up reply actions

He rocked Marquart with it in their title fight

He’s actually right handed but fights southpaw, hence all the KOs with his right hand. Robbie Lawler does the same thing.

Silva is the best today.

Jones should dethrone him as #1 within the next two years. Both are exceptionally gifted. In a class of their own.

Behind them are GSP, Edgar, Aldo.

And then there’s the rest of the field.

know what Silva and Bones have in common

unique styles, hard-to-figure timing, long limbs, and the ability to cut absurd amounts of weight so that they can beat up whole divisions of guys a lot smaller than them. Silva looked almost as big as Forrest when they fought and Forrest is a gigantic freak among LHWs. Bones is bigger than Forrest. He’s within 5 lbs of the HW champion and a good deal longer than JDS.

When Silva beats Shogun & Machida, then I’ll call him the best guy his size in the world. Same for Bones when he beats Junior and Cain. And I think those outcomes are very likely, but they need to man up and prove it. You don’t belong in the “pound for pound” discussion if you aren’t even fighting guys your own size.

"Who's da MASTA?!!!"

by (shonuff) on Jan 22, 2012 10:28 AM EST up reply actions

Right so what exactly is a fair fight then?

I mean Palhares probably has 3 times the physical strength that Silva does but because he’s 6 inches shorter, which actually often suits his style, you think he has some sort of disadvantage? You’re argument is flawed because the only size that you’re taking into account is length. You’d like to see Jones fight Junior, but in what paralleled universe are those guys the same size? Jeff Monsoon is roughly the same height as Kenny Florian, do they belong in the same weight class? Crazy

Sakuraba beats Silva, Aoki would beat Miller and Vitor Belfort didn't deserve his title shot - In my opinion, the craziest points I've read on this site...

by Honkleton7 on Jan 22, 2012 10:49 AM EST up reply actions

1) In THIS universe, dude. All you have to do is look at the pics of Bones sitting next to Cain. He’s a bigger man, period.

2) I guarantee you Kenny Florian can add muscle easier than Jeff Monson can add height. Frankly, length is such a big advantage in both striking AND grappling that I think they should consider height classes instead of weight classes. Guys can gain and lose muscle mass (and fat) but they can’t change their length or height, and those are big advantages. And personally, I don’t like the direction the UFC is headed with more and more of these anorexic-looking 6’ tall lightweights cutting ridiculous amounts of weight and coming in looking like scarecrows.

I’d rather see more guys who look like Monson fight than more guys who look like Struve & Nate Diaz. They need to find some way to make it more fair. Weight (especially the day before) is clearly not proving to be a good way of matching up fighters with guys their own size.

I never liked Lesnar, but you gotta look at the simple facts. The man nearly died of diverticulitis. Before the disease he was passing out ass whoopins like they were welfare checks. After the disease he was on the receiving end in every fight. It was a miracle that he came back at all, but he didn’t come back the same man.

not just the disease but the level of opponent he faced

he had not faced a high level striker in his career before the diverticulitis after he faced 3 of them.

Heheh. J/k. Of course, you’re right (though I wouldn’t call Cain a high level striker.) but opponents aside, from the opening bell he just wasn’t the same guy. No agressiveness, no explosiveness, hesitant to shoot or pull the trigger. Totally different fighter. I don’t know whether the disease made him that much weaker and slower, or if it just confronted him with his own mortality for the first time in his life and robbed him of his confidence in his own invincibility.

by steady2wheels on Jan 24, 2012 5:25 AM EST up reply actions

I think it’s cause Faber is from a hippie Christian background and is outgoing & positive, while Cruz seems kind of negative and for the Faber fight he seemed full of resentment about Faber winning the first fight and Uriah singing and autograph over Cruz’s face as far as I recall.

I don’t have a strong opinion about either of them really. My boyfriend loves Uriah from the WEC days but I just think… Cruz seems like a naturally talented and hard working athlete with a slightly abrasive personality, Uriah seems like a positive guy who has elite skills too.

It’s all personality really. Uriah is the kind of guy people can imagine being friends with while Cruz is… I’m not sure about it but he doesn’t seem that friendly from what I’ve seen.

Where are his subs of Lutter and Hendo?

"It’s Mark Pavelich calling from the Maximum Fighting Championship,

I’ve just received notice that Drew Fickett or you, I don’t care which one of you fuckers did it, has signed a contract to fight in Strikeforce this fucking weekend. I’m going to get on a fucking plane soon and go where you’re at and choke you the fuck out. I’m telling you right now, I’ve had enough of your fucking shit. First of all, I’ve sent you the fucking pictures and secondly, I placed Drew Fickett in a fight fucking months ago and five weeks prior to my main event of my fucking fight card. You’re going to give me a fucking call tomorrow or I swear I’ll get on a fucking plane and go right where you’re at right now. You’re pissing me off, I’ve been nothing but professional to you motherfuckers and you’re doing this kind of bullshit, alright? Call me back, I’m fucking pissed."

Silva is the greatest MMA fighter to date no doubt. Very impressive stuff. The funny thing is these aren’t all of his great finishes (Hendo’s RNC comes to mind).

One thing that is amazing about Silva, when he hits someone, they go down and do not get back up generally. His accuracy, timing and speed is off the charts.

Great post, it’s hard to argue with facts & .GIF’s. Silva is everything you want from a fighter and yet some people complain… Awesome technical standup, brutal KO power, diversified strikes, great clinch, great TDD, great subs, great off his back. and yet some people will still bitch!
Oh well maia has better subs, chael took him down! blah blah blah.. it’s like sure some people are better at one thing than Anderson. but NOBODY in the game right now has his level of skill in ALL areas and HAS ALREADY established that in the cage like him. Especially anyone at ’85

I’m so sick and tired of hearing this argument about size and how “it isn’t fair” that fighter a cuts x amount of lbs when fighter b only weighs x. and fighter a is so much taller than b etc. etc.

That argument is stupid. Fighters choose what weight class they wanna fight in. They know the size of the other guys they are going to face. It’s not “unfair.” If your too small for your division move down, if your too big to make weight, move up. And in this case… It is “that easy” it’s that simple, if you want to fight mma? you fight in the classes offered to you, If you wanna fight for the UFC? you can choose which class you want, but you can’t make your own.

The only real discrepancy in weight classes is the need for a division in between 205 & 265 but even then HW has been pretty thin for the past few years so the demand isn’t surpassing need yet.

Silva is everything you want from a fighter

umm, no

I want a champion with the balls to step up and fight the best guys his size, not a champion who has to have his arm twisted by his boss to even fight the best guys smaller than him.

I want a champion who doesn’t bitch and moan every time he’s asked to fight a TOP 3 opponent.

I want a champion who doesn’t act like a clown in the ring and disrespectfully mock his opponents.

I want a champion who seeks out challenging opponents, not runs from them.

I believe Silva is probably the most talented fighter ever to step into the Octogon. But he’s NONE of the things I want in a CHAMPION!

Yet he barely cracked .500 in Pride

Hendo/Bisping:
"He hit him so hard that even gravity got scared. Bisping hung in mid-air for a moment while gravity screamed at inertia, "Did you see that shit!?" Then, after a high five, the two universal forces quit screwing around and yanked Bisping's limp body onto the floor." - quotes by Seanbaby
