Jon Anik did a fantastic job

I don't know about anyone else but I have been awfully sick of Joe Rogans one sided commentating and Goldies useless little comments for a while. Last night Kenny and Jon did and awesome job, and i wouldn't mind seeing them on more major event rather then just FX and Fuel. Jon's professionalism when entering the ring for post fight interviews is exactly what the sport needs at every event moving forward. Watching Rogan harass Yamasaki over his DQ call of Erik Silva was embarrassing for the UFC and the fans. No other major sporting organization would a ref and a commentator get into a discussion like that. Whether it was a poor call or not by Yamasaki, Rogan did an awful job dealing with the situation.

Also Aniks interview with Dana was so much smoother and sounded great. It seemed like an interview you would see on Sunday night football, or NBA on TNT. When Rogan is on the mic for live interviews you get a sense of nervousness and unprofessionalism.

What do you think maniacs would you rather see Anik or Rogan get the brunt of commentating duties in the future?

I'm tired of Rogan too

but I thought the guys last night were horrible. If they weren’t boring, they were cliched and annoying.

I mean, I heard a rumor that Guillard was athletic and explosive. I heard that rumor about 100 times during his short fight.

There def were a couple to many cliches

True

I was not impressed, but true that it was their first event. Time will tell.

Could have said it better myself

I don’t thin I fully appreciated Goldie/rogan until that disaster last night.

I wish Anik would be more conversational. It’s like he’s putting on a different voice because he thinks that’s how an announcer should talk.

What does being controversial have to do with the voice he uses ?

i just noticed a lot of dead air when they were fighting in the prelims..

like the announcers were just watching the fights then remembering that they were supposed to talk about it… and i know rogan can be bias..but he knows his shit..and he can explain what a fighter is going to attempt or what is available for him to attempt on the ground..and goldie i could live with out..but i dunno..it just feels strange when they are not announcing…i would miss joe if they kicked him out of his position.. kinda like i missed big john when he was not reffing for those few years…

It will suck if they ever drop Rogan. But yeah, Goldie is easily replaceable.

yeah i agree

rogan is extremely knowledgeable, his bias has just gotten to me.
Anik has his work cut out for him going forward but i feel once he gets comfortable there will be less dead air and hell be much more knowledgeable

i think Joe/Florian could be a good combo after time, im not sure if they have commentated together before. But there definately needs to be at least one big personality.

Joe Rogan is funnier, knows more, shows more enthusiam, and just is a better fit

by theultimate on Jan 21, 2012 11:23 AM EST via mobile reply actions

I couldn't DISAGREE with you more...

Anik and Florian were flat and bland. Their voices are to alike and very monotone. Maybe Florian and Rogan would be good. I could definitely do without Goldie’s “IT IS ALL OVER!”
But Anik should be announcing that new Fuel TV show “UFC tonight” not the actual fights themself.

Meh

Anik saying everything was “High level” reallty got to me. He was announcing like a fan and not a play-by-play guy.

I was impressed by Kenny’s breakdowns on the Barry/Morecraft fight (notably the armbar escape explanation before Barry did it) and the Miller/Guillard fight (recognizing the instep push on the back of Guillard’s knee).

I hated Jay Glazer in the booth as well. He is horrible.

also, im so tired of people talking about the rogan/yamasaki thing
Watching Rogan harass Yamasaki over his DQ call of Erik Silva was embarrassing for the UFC and the fans.

if thats what you call harassment, then i guess this 2 inches of snow we just got here up north is a blizzard? he ASKED him about his call and brought it to his attention that most of the shots were to the side of the head…he did what the fans would have wanted him to do, he got answers…mario said that it was in the moment, and joe lauded him for his reffing career, he understood that he had to make a quick decision, but said he thought he got this call wrong

No other major sporting organization would a ref and a commentator get into a discussion like that.

when ed hochuli blew the fumble call a couple years ago in the broncos-chargers game, he absolutely was interviewed after the game…maybe not 30 seconds after he made the call, but thats because of the different nature of the sports…you dont see lesean mccoy get interviewed after he breaks for a 65 yard TD run in the first quarter, and its not because its “wrong” or “unprofessional,” its because theres still a fucking game going on

ill put it this way, you can say that jon anik did a decent job, but i know that the majority of people, when they saw him and florian open the broadcast, were already disappointed

If you think, you are late
If you are late, you use strength
If you use strength, you tire

Joe Rogan owns, and he owned Yamasaki

Florian a good play by play guy, but he ever so rarely gets excited and he sounds like a gym coach.
Anik sounded like a tape recorder and I was extremely disappointing when I found that he was doing the weigh-ins LET ALONE doing fight commentary.

But he IS under informed. Routinely misses calls on position/subs and even his calling of standup (which should be his bread and butter) is not always on point. But I may have a slight bias….his voice annoys the crap out of me.

But fantastic? Absolutely not. When he can see whats coming and explain it before it happens – then you can compare him to (the admittedly sometimes overzealous but usually spot on) Rogan.

Anik and Ken-Flo have the exact same voice..

Although Rogan is a little biased in some fights, I sure missed his over exciting commentary.. And Goldberg does bud light ad so much better..

“were sponsored by bud light.”

I think for there 1st fight it wasn’t the best but time will tell how they do. It’s weird watching a fight without hearing rogan or goldies voice as it was without comentating my 1st live event but only thing that I hate is 9 out of 10 times when rogan says something it happens. Last weekend for example the second he said knockout boom down goes Etim.
