UFC 141 results wrap: Brock Lesnar retires from MMA after losing to Alistair Overeem
Happy New Year!
For those mixed martial arts (MMA) fans who spent their Friday night pre-gaming for the inevitable drink-tank that consumes a majority of the male population of New Year's Eve, you missed a pretty historic pay-per-view (PPV) event that closed out Ultimate Fighting Championship's (UFC) 2011 fight campaign.
Brock Lesnar retired from active competition, Alistair Overeem made a successful UFC debut and Jon Fitch got KTFO by a guy with a bushy beard.
Nate Diaz also turned in a career performance against Donald Cerrone and shattered a CompuStrike record in the process. Oh, and if you never heard of Jim Hettes, you will.
UFC 141: "Lesnar vs. Overeem" went out with a bang, and hopefully you did too (literally and figuratively). Here's what happened at the Friday night fights from the MGM Grand Garden Arena on Dec. 30 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Check it all out (plus a few bonus links on Fedor Emelianenko) after the jump.

Couldn't be happier.
He had nothing to offer, other than brute strength.
Take you down, hold you down, pound you down. Not very good at any of them and Not good enough against a “true” martial artist.
Most glaring deficiency – too weak in the head.
MMA is better off without him. Bye Bye, Crock.
Jds vs reem
A showdown for the ages.

True but in Jds and Reem neither are coming off a year long layoff so it should he good. I think it ends quick though and doesn’t really display striking like the way people think because once Jds lands a decent punch on Reem I’m thinking its over but I could be wrong
by zesotheclown on Jan 2, 2012 10:10 AM EST via mobile up reply actions
jds is coming off knee surgery
A long layoff is very possible

Yea but a year? I don’t think so I see that fight happening sometime in April or June and not next year in January

Farewell Brock
You had nothing left to prove buddy and established alot in a very short time with limited experience. No doubt remembered as one of the great heavyweights of our time
Sakuraba beats Silva, Aoki would beat Miller and Vitor Belfort didn't deserve his title shot - In my opinion, the craziest points I've read on this site...
Nope
He beat an aging undersized LHW for the belt, defended it twice (barely the second time) and then got humiliated in his next two fights (three if u wanna count Carwin).
He had nothing to offer skill-wise, and if he did i sure as shit didn’t see it. He absolutely should NOT be remembered as “one of the greatest HWs of our time”.

I agree 100%.
I have always thought of him that way. Wrestling and brute strength was all he had. Only those delusional enough to some how look at him as some MMA god with his limited skills and brute strength victories, thought he was going to beat Reem, those with any sense at all were not surprised at all at how that fight ended with the experience and skills that Overeem has. I did not see it ending any other way . Looking foward to JDS, Overeem. I hear plenty saying JDS one punch, a well placed knee can also do a lot of damage, and I am guessing a solid punch on the chin from Overeem would not feel to good either. If K1 striking is as irrelevent as some like to make out, then it should be pretty easy for an MMA striker to get K1 titles. I have seen plenty of boxers who seem to think there skills will get them far in K1, and the majority of them end up losing and hardly able to walk from the sheer power of the leg kicks. Also ,as qualified as some keyboard warriors may well be on the subject, i’m guessing they are not as qualified as Javier Mendez the head coach Of AKA who does not see Overeems K1 striking as such a joke, or irrelevant and thought striking with Overeem would not be the best strategy for Cain. http://www.mmamania.com/2011/4/21/2124795/ufc-quick-quote-if-cain-velasquez-chose-to-strike-with-alistair

You're 100% wrong
Only Tim Sylvia defended the belt twice the way brock did. He over came one of the biggest beatings of all time to choke Carwin and destroyed mir in a manner nobody else has. As for skill wise he’s one of the most decorated wrestlers ever and he’s different class. Solid chin, big power, great champion! I dont care what you say, quite possibly the finest heavy weight ever especially when you consider how weak the division is…

First of all,
Tim Sylvia was champion of the shittest HW Division ever. Secondly, Vera demolished Mir pretty bad too.
As for being a decorated wrestler, that may be true, but credentials don’t always carry over successfully. I’m not saying that Brock isn’t a good wrestler, I’m just saying that we didn’t see much of it.
“Solid chin, big power, great champion”
Solid chin: Maybe, but he still can’t take a punch well.
Big power: Where? When did he flat KO anyone?
Great champion: He quit dude.

"You had nothing left to prove buddy" How about prove he ever had a heart.
The fights he won. he never faced any adversity// The fights he lost he showed no heart.
BROCK WAS A FRAUD
Thats total bollocks, he had more heart than anybody else in the company!
That first round against Carwin showed that. Nobody will leave the legacy Brock did, top ten best ever, END OF STORY!
