PrintI don't know if this has all ready been posted, but I couldn't see it anywhere. Anyhow, this .gif clearly shows that there was only one hit to the back of the head (Maybe two if this gif missed any of the punches), so even if Mario yelled "do not hit the back of the head" multiple times before stopping it, he was wrong. One blow doesn't equate to being disqualified in my book.

Definitely at least one shot on the back of the head. A second one which is debatable.
But there were a few on the borderline shots to the back of the head which some may argue it is not illegal or illegal. Near back of the head, side shots that took out Couture, Machida.

the fact of the matter is
if u follow the mohawk method, then even the “illegal” punch was legal. their is no concrete system and this isnt as cut and dry as one of Vitors many back of the head ko’s. this is a fringe punch that cud go either way and the ref freaked out. Silva doesnt fucking speak english, how wud he know what Yamatard was saying

Live, while it was happening those shots all looked to be to the back of the head! I was shocked that Joe called him out like that! In all fast paced sports refs are not good enough, video reply needs to be brought in. I thought steve did a good job with what he had, he protected the fighter and made a judgement call, this was not the worst call in MMA not even close. I had no problem with it, buddy wasnt making sure he wasnt hitting him in the back of the head a few of those shots did hit the back of the head! To me it looked like he was just wildly throwing werever they landed didnt matter. steves one of the best, no prob with that stoppage or call, shit happens. What he saw was close to what happened!

And Akiyama definitely got hit with shots to the back of the head but was not called….
