PrintVancouver, BC (January 17th, 2012) - Roots of Fight, a new lifestyle apparel brand focused on connecting the history and evolution of boxing and martial arts, pays tribute to Muhammad Ali on his 70th birthday, today, January 17, 2012.
To grasp the true power of any cultural force, you have to know its history. That idea holds true across all arenas from politics to music to literature and, particularly, to combat sports. With greater context comes deeper appreciation. Roots of Fight celebrates the icons of the past and present who contributed to the phenomenon of mixed martial arts (MMA).
Roots of Fight is more than just an apparel company. It explores the storied bloodlines of all combat sports and examines how they relate to one another. Each piece of clothing has a story to tell. Roots of Fight conveys that story through a stunning collection of mini documentaries featuring commentary from fighters and personalities across all disciplines as well as cultural icons.
"It seems fitting to launch our brand with a video homage to Muhammad Ali. He dominated the sport of boxing and American culture for decades" says Jesse Katz, President of Roots of Fight. "The Greatest of All Time is turning 70 today, and we felt our first Ali video would make a fitting tribute to the champ."
The first release in the Roots of Fight documentary collection features some classic Ali footage along with commentary from sport legends and fighters such as George Chuvalo, Bas "El Guapo" Rutten, Eddie Bravo, Mark Munoz, and one of Ali's greatest fans, Hip Hop Icon Snoop Dogg.

Doubtful.
I honestly doubt Muhammad can physically throw a punch anymore, but I think that making light of his illness, especially today, is wrong.

Stripped of ones livelihood in the prime years of your career would make most fall. It made Ali the Greatest
Was he perfect? Absolutely not. But he certainly stood up for his beliefs like no one else in American sports.
When you hear athletes today talk about adversity (ie, losing streaks, fans giving up on us, blah blah blah) it’s almost comical. Step in Ali’s shoes.
Lastly, his boxing skills were second to none.
He is the Greatest athlete in American history.

Frazier was better, Ali = UFC, just a media thing that is put on a pedestal, great, yes, but not the greatest, I once had a conversation with a guy who thought Ali was the greatest, favorite teams were the yankees, lakers, cowboys and steelers, I tole him Duran was better than Ali and he called Duran a quitter, I replied with Ali quit in the thrilla in Manila, and he quit on america, Ali was a was an asshole, period.

Joe Louis
There is an article on Cox’s Corner about how would Joe Louis fare against Ali. He says Ali based his style on his incredible speed and agility but technically he was a pretty bad boxer and cannot defend a (good) jab. Hence his problems with Norton or later when he lost his speed. Pretty good read.
