I know i've posted this before, but here is Ali's MMA fight against Antonio Inoki..

For those curious about why Inoki is kicking from the ground here is the background:

Prior to agreeing to face Inoki in 1976, Muhammad Ali and his team attended one of Kanji’s matches, where they gained great respect for his submission grappling skills and powerful leg strikes. This led Team Ali to stipulate that they would only face Inoki if he agreed to only utilize his leg strikes with one knee touching the ground. This rule put Kanji at a severe disadvantage, but he agreed nonetheless. Kanji would go on to battle Ali to a 3 – 3 draw.

He beat Foreman before that fight even started

He was in his head.
I also remember he and Smokin’ Joe almost coming to blows on a few occasions, YEARS after they fought.
Ali was the greatest in an era of greats.
He was the most famous man on the planet, when I was a kid. More famous than presidents, popes or royalty. He was smart. He was fast. He was the greatest athlete I have ever had the pleasure to watch compete.

Have you ever noticed that anybody driving slower than you is an idiot, and anyone going faster than you is a maniac?

Agree

That’s why I don’t like when fighters are compared to him he’s just in a class of his own

Some guys are so talented

That they make every other pro look bad.
Take your Gretzky…Howe, Lemieux, Jordan or Tiger and I believe Ali was more dominant than all of them.

I don’t entirely agree. He was the best, he is smart, he was the most popular guy on the planet, but I don’t put him up there with the Gretzky’s and Jordans of his sport. That is reserved for Sugar.

I hope you mean Robinson and not Leonard...lol

Ali was a scary ass lightning fast heavyweight, with footwork like I have never seen since.
He beat half of the Hall Of Fame.
Obviously, it’s debateable.
So I’m just gloing to go ahead and say I’m right….lol

2kg rahr pilsner, 3kg briess white wheat, 20IBUs (1oz hallertau with FWH), ended up with 4G after boil. OG was 1.055 and FG was 1.011 (almost 70% mash efficiency). 3 volumes of CO2 (yes i know, i know… too much for the style). Got 2 cases out of it.

i fucked up BIG TIME in the hops variety for the snpa, a complete fuck up by misreading the labels. It does smell & taste good though, gonna have to wait another week before transfering to secondary and do some dry hop with 1oz of cascade. Hopefully it will be good but it’s not going to be exactly as i wanted.

You could a fanpost with your brewing process once you get back to it, that would be greatly appreciated!

Foreman pointed out the exact moment he was beaten.

Jim Lampley asked him a couple of years ago if, at some point before the end, Foreman was aware that he was going to lose the match. To Lampley’s surprise, Foreman replied: “Yep!”.

Foreman said that he was hitting Ali with his best shots, and multiple times for each shot. Nobody had withstood a fraction of what Ali endured. In the 7th round, Ali asked Foreman: “George, is that the best you’ve got?”. And Foreman thought to himself: “Yep. That’s it.”

Just a few examples...

Muhammad Ali on integration:

“We who follow the teachings of Elijah Muhammad (leader of the Nation of Islam) don’t want to be forced to integrate. Integration is wrong. We don’t want to live with the white man”

Muhammad Ali on intermarriage:

“No intelligent black man or black woman in his or her right black mind wants white boys and white girls coming to their homes to marry their black sons and daughters.”

Muhammad Ali on homosexuality:

“All Jews and gentiles are devils… Blacks are no devils… Everything black people doing wrong comes from [the white people]: Drinking, smoking, prostitution, homosexuality, stealing, gambling: It all comes from [the white people]”

In an interview with Playboy Ali said “A black man should be killed if he’s messing with a white woman.” When the interviewer asked about black women crossing the colour barrier, Ali responded: “Then she dies. Kill her, too.”

And I haven’t even touched on what he said about Joe Frazier lookin like a monkey.

Martin Luther on Muhammad Ali:

“When Cassius Clay joined the Black Muslims he became a champion of the racial segregation and that is what we are fighting against.”

Being on the receiving end of racism will do that to you. Do you want to be around people who don;t want to be with you? If someone told you to sit at the back of the bus, I think you’d be perfectly within your right to say, To hell with you I don’t even want to be in the same bus with you.

He was about helping black people take pride in themselves, and to believe they were not inferior. Everything he said was in reaction to the unmentionable dehumanization and abuse black people suffered. He may have been a little over the top, but that was his nature- he was a larger than life personality. He was also a gentle, kind and genuinely loving person. To call him racist is patently ridiculous.

And yes, many of his friends were white :-) Including Angelo Dundee and Howard Cosell.

by Motmaitre on Jan 17, 2012 11:44 AM EST up reply actions

how can you even justify it?

Is it ok for a victim of black-on-white crime to say all black people are the same?? No.

If someone told you to sit at the back of the bus, I think you’d be perfectly within your right to say, To hell with you I don’t even want to be in the same bus with you.

Right. If you speak to that person, not generalize every single white person.

The guy went on national television and spoke about the “white devil”, and ofcourse nobody said anything because white people aren’t supposed to defend themselves – it’s called “white guilt”. It’s accepted racism. But not with me. Racism is a two-way street.

MLK did support Ali. He also said that any intelligent white man or women wouldn’t let their kids marry to a black man/girl so I don’t know where you’re getting that from. Don’t try paint him as this radical racist, he was far from it. He was always rational, how about you read/watch the full interview instead reading nonsense online. Take some time out to find out more about him before posting you ignorant chump. We’ve all benefited from Ali, period.

Hey Dumbass

Ali LEFT THE NATION OF ISLAM so quoting him from his days in the NOI is pretty fucking retarded.

As for calling Frazier a monkey, how’s that racist? If someone looks like a monkey, then they look like a monkey, doesn’t have something to do with race, plus maybe you forgot, that Ali is black too, God are you seriously fucking retarded?

"I ain't got no quarrel with them Viet Cong... No Viet Cong ever called me nigger"

Epic quote.

He also said a lot of crap while he was in his hardcore Nation of Islam period though.
“We who follow the teachings of Elijah Muhammad don’t want to be forced to integrate. Integration is wrong. We don’t want to live with the white man; that’s all.”
“No intelligent black man or black woman in his or her right black mind wants white boys and white girls coming to their homes to marry their black sons and daughters.”

It’s not outlandish to hear this from a black kid who grew up in America in the 50s though. MIssissipi was burning.

You're good ! But I won't fold ! Luke Cage !

Well, anybody who knows me knows I'm no fan of dictionaries or reference books. They're elitist. Constantly telling us what is or isn't true. Or what did or didn't happen.

As George Foreman said when he established his list of the top ten boxers of all time:

“Ali wasn’t the best boxer of all time, but he’s the best human who boxed.” Or something to that effect.

by Wonderjudas on Jan 17, 2012 12:26 PM EST up reply actions

i love how Foreman came out and said how much he loved MMA

and it were around when he was fighting, he would have been all over it! “aint nobody pull the rope a dope on me then!”

As a boxer?

never got to see Ali fight...was just getting born when his career was over

but i grew up with my father telling me story after story about this Man, Muhammad Ali. I have since watched tonnes of old fight tapes and read a number of his books. I recommend this one….the way Ali looks at life is amazing

good rec

I will have to pick this up for sure

Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the law

Since all things are God, in all things thou seest just so much of God as thy capacity affordeth thee.

Modern morality and manners suppress all natural instincts, keep people ignorant of the facts of nature and make them fighting drunk on bogey tales.

No one understands what it means but its provocative, gets the people going.

Favorite Ali moment was Last year when he pleaded for the ending of violence and war in the middle east and to release hostages

And it took all his might because of his disease

When he shakes his head at bush. Best moment in my lifetime.

Or where he praises will smith for portraying him properly.

Ali was an ass and a racist

The way he treated Joe Frazier was DISGUSTING! Saying he was not “black” enough? What kind of shit is that? I respect his skills in the ring but I don’t respect him as a man at all.
