Wladimir-klitschko-ruslan-chagaev48

Boxing champion Wladimir Klitschko tells Jim Rome he respects the sport of mixed martial arts (MMA) and wants to "give it a try" to help keep him in shape. However, despite his admiration for cage fighting, the Ukrainian pugilist admits he's "too old" to consider competing at this stage of his career. Anyone want to take a guess as to what kind of MMA fighter he could have been if the UFC was as popular when "Dr. Steelhammer" first got into combat sports?

Me too

Not really hated, but he just rubs me the wrong way. I like the Klitschkos better. Especially Vitali.

You forget to memtion that Vitali was handidly beating lewis

but the fight was ended because if a cut, and like the coward Lennox lewis is, he retired, never giving Vitali his more than deserved rematch.

Two totally different sports.

That’s the kind of thing ignorant assholes do when they do not have an argument.

You cannot possibly compare a tko due to cuts in boxing, to a submission in mixed martial arts.

It’s alright though. I understand that you did not watch the Vitali/Lewis fight.

I will leave you to wallow in your own ignorance and feces.

There should be a mutual respect between boxers and mma fighters.

Lol way to group everyone into one group.

The only people in boxing I can think of that still shit all over mma, are Bob Arum and….well that’s it.

James Toney actually stepped into the cage, so he earned a lot of respect from me, and B-Hop has come around to liking MMA.

But there are a lot of MMA fans who hate boxing too.

But people are starting to realize that there’s no competition between the 2. They can co-exist just fine.

I was a boxing journalist and can garantee you that some people in the community have no problem with MMA,

while others are indifferent. But, from my experience, even though they won’t all go on the record, most boxing people hate MMA. At least when I was around a couple of years ago.

I’ve been specifically told, while covering mixed fighting cards, that it was OK to also include the kickboxing results but not “that UFC crap.”

actually more prevalent than you think

my boxing coach was trying to get his gym recognized by the alberta boxing commission. the gym had boxing mon-sat and a bjj guy teaching a class twice a week on the side. he had a tough time getting recognized and couldn’t figure out why until someone inside the commission tipped him off: those higher up in the commission thought the name of his gym sounded too (i quote) “mma-ish”.

the name of the gym? “canmore fight club”…. no lie.

life is a hypocrite if i can't live the way it moves me.

Vitali could have been great at MMA

Suprising that two brothers could have chins as far apart as any fighters.

I don't think so

Arlovski has a bad chin and terrible defense.
Wlad has great defense and uses his reach very well. He wouldn’t be as touched as Arlovski.

No doubt

But boxing in MMA is different. Different timing, worry about takedowns and kicks, different stances. Pure boxing? You can’t really argue who wins there.

And not being threatened by MMA. He may have been nasty if he started a while back. Obviously built for some nasty Muay Thai, of course he would have had to develop some kind of ground game but I’m sure he could have…

both K brothers were also kickboxers as well – coming from that area of the former USSR, these are guys who would have had access to training in outstanding wrestling and sambo – these guys are both physically gifted, no doubt they would have been formidable in mma – like if Karelin had gone to MMA – the athleticism and discipline would have made him a monster

Obviously with his size and great boxing, if he could develop TDD defense like JDS, he would be a destroyer of men. He is probably a Fedor fan…
