UFC 142: "Aldo vs. Mendes" from the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, has officially wrapped, which means it's time for those select fighters who went above and beyond in their respective fights to get a little extra grease for their efforts.
To the tune of $65,000 each.
The promotion dished out its standard post-fight monetary bonuses to four out of the 20 fighters on the card, and it's probably no surprise who's leaving South America with a second sack of simoleons.
It was clear just as soon as Edson Barboza landed that sick wheel kick on Terry Etim and it shut down the Brit's senses that there was no way in hell he wasn't winning "Knockout of the Night." In fact, it was the first time a kick of that variation has ever knocked anyone out inside the Octagon.
As a way to double dip and hook Barboza up with an extra $65K while softening the blow for Etim, these two were also awarded "Fight of the Night" honors. And really, a knockout that spectacular deserves a second bonus. That may have been worth the price of admission by itself.
It's also no surprise that Rousimar Palhares took home "Submission of the Night" with his heel hook submission victory over Mike Massenzio. He can use the money to spruce up his showcase of limbs, seeing as he's adding another almost every time he competes.
Here are the special fight bonuses for UFC 142:
Knockout of the Night -- Edson Barboza
Submission of the Night -- Rousimar Palhares
Fight of the Night -- Edson Barboza vs. Terry Etim
Again, each fighter received $65,000 extra for their performances in addition to their respective base salaries, which we will pass along as soon as possible.
