Gina Carano: 'Haywire' movie sneak peek video

Haywire-4_medium

To further whet your appetite for Gina Carano's upcoming bone-crushing cinematic extravaganza, an official five-minute "Haywire" teaser trailer has been unleashed on the Interwebs.

It gives a feel of the movie's overall texture, and nicely juxtaposes both Gina's acting and combat skills. The pleasant surprise for me was that she is apparently a quite decent actress. Given that her forbears like Chuck Norris, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Dolph Lundgren and Quinton Jackson didn't exactly put Robert de Niro to shame, it was nice to see her competently inhabit her character, and be convincing, even in close-ups.

Carano, a former American Gladiator, stars as a "black ops super-soldier seeking payback after she is betrayed and set up during a mission." Directed by Steven Soderbergh, Haywire also stars Channing Tatum, Ewan MacGregor, Michael Fassbender, Antonio Banderas and Michael Douglas, hitting theaters on January 20, 2012.

Check out the first five minutes of Haywire, after the jump.

I feel like I'm in bizzaro world.

How anybody in their right mind can even consider that acting at all is completely beyond my comprehension. That was a horrendous and awkward exchange that made channing tatum look good. I mean, my god, he looked skilled across from gina. I am baffled and perplexed. I mean, seriously? That was good acting? Are people watching too many pauly shore movies? What gives? The movie could be descent, but gina’s acting? Really? No joke? I’m at a loss for words. I just need to walk away and contemplate the current state of cinema in a world where that performance, though only a few lines, could be considered anything other than a verbal abortion.

lol dude the movie isn't meant to be historically accurate

There’s a caucasian samurai that whoops on everyone with a few months training.. even guys that have trained in the art of the samurai their whole lives.. it’s just a movie with a basis on a true story.

its just that

sometimes i see a Braveheart clip on YouTube for instance and people will bicker about historical accuracy.. i mean it’s just a movie. If people want the true story they should read a few books on the topic ya know. You can’t condense years of history into 2 hours of moving pictures.

Ulgren-San was a drunk gun slinger who had never swung a blade in his life.

Actually, he was a highly experienced soldier- just like the Samurai. And he was an expert swordsman, already. If you recall the scene in which he was captured, he demonstrated such high expertise with his (Western) sword, that Kasimoto ordered that he should be captured alive, being impresed by the tiger spirit he displayed.

The first time he sparred with Ujio (the Samurai badass) he was holding his wooden sword with one hand, the same way he normally held his sabre.

So he definitely was not learning swordsmanship from scratch. A better analogy would be someone with a black belt in Taekwondo learning Muay Thai. There would be a learning curve, but a much shorter one than a novice would have.

I thought it was a wonderful film, one of my top five of all time, and the aspect of learning Japanese combat was very plausible, considering his background. The only thing which ruined the movie from a realism perspective was that he was the only soldier that survived the massacre at the end. That was ridiculous.

I guess this i can agree on to an extent. He was a talented soldier as the movie portrayed him.

I still think it was absurd that they had him hanging with the top samurai in sparring.. kind of made the movie a little cheesy for me.

It's really not bad...

I won’t be seeing it, because mindless action movies are not my cup of tea (dramas are more my thing) but it certainly looks a cut above the typical martial-artist-turns-movie-star film. This isn’t like Cynthia Rothrock. And Gina’s not a bad actress. In the first couple of minutes she had to communicate a lot of inner thoughts with facial expressions alone. That’s challenging for a bad actress, but she did ok.

Who is the only Maniac to appear in every mmamania fantasy football league superbowl in league history?

by DetroitDrew1980 on Jan 11, 2012 10:36 AM EST up reply actions

Recent or All Time?

All Time Would Take Forever, but the ones in my ‘Movies To Watch List’, comprising fairly recent dramas I haven’t seen yet are:

We have to talk about Kevin
Iron Lady
A Dangerous Method
Incendies
The White Ribbon
The Help
Tinker Tailor, Soldier, Spy
13 Tzameti (original, not Hollywood remake)
Donny Darko (not recent, but I haven;t seen it)
I saw the Devil (Korean)
Albert Nobbs

What I do when I need to watch good dramas is simply search for all past Oscar Best Picture nominees going back forever. The Best Foreign Language Category is a fantastic goldmine. These movies rarely make a lot of money, but the Oscar nominees always include fantastic dramatic movies (that’s how I found The White Ribbon above). Try that.

But then I rematched “The Octagon” with chuck Norris , and I remembered that I never needed Oscar caliber acting before so I had to ask my self why I was wanting to be so hard on this

I said it before. Its painful to watch Gina Carano act.
