The official weigh-in for Bellator 49's Saturday evening event took place today (September 9, 2011) at the Caesar's Atlantic City in Atlantic City New Jersey.
Of the 18 fighters who hit the scale, 14 successfully made weight. The only tournament fighter to miss weight was Douglas Lima. "The Phenom" has two hours to cut off the excess 0.4 pounds.
Bellator 49 will be the debut of the promotion's fifth season as eight welterweights square off in the quarterfinals with the tournament winner earning a right to challenge for the title as well as a cool $100,000.
Returning to the tournament will be three-time welterweight tournament veteran Dan Hornbuckle, season two semifinalist Steve Carl, season four semifinalist Brent Weedman and exciting striking specialist Chris Lozano.
They will be joined by the a group of tournament newcomers which includes UFC and The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) season seven veteran Ben Saunders (pictured above), former MFC welterweight champion Douglas Lima, veteran Brazilian prospect Luis Santos and late injury replacement kickboxer Chris Cisneros.
