Bellator Middleweight Champion Hector Lombard notched another victory today (Sept. 3, 2011), this time under the Australian Fighting Championships banner, over former Ultimate Fighter (TUF) contestant Jesse Taylor via submission in round two. It was the nineteenth win in a row for "Shango," who hasn't lost a bout since Nov. 2006.

One of the most underrated fighters in MMA
Along with El Nino (who is starting to finally get some cred on the rankings)
Considering that there are essentially no credible challengers remaining at 185 besides Sonnen for Anderson (besides less-than-exciting possibilities against Hendo, Stann, & Palhares) I think now more than ever the UFC needs to sign Lombard.
Even if he comes to the UFC and fails miserably… it’s worth the risk at this point. 185 is flailing.
MW isn't flailing it's just that anderson has beaten everybody so decisively.
Anderson makes really good fighters look awful.

Agreed and below GSP you have more people before getting to Sonnen.
Who are considered good wrestlers in the MW division anyways? Okami and Marquardt? Too many one-dimensional fighters as well. I see Anderson as great by how badly he beats people not really who he beats.
And Sonnen is the best wrestler in the MW division, but he also has one of the worst BJJ defense in any division.

Wooley do you really believe that the best wrestler is actually Sonnen ? Your going to say hes better then Brock, Cain, King Mo and GSP ? Also I think the best BJJ guy right now would be Roger Graice. And the best striker might soon get moved over to JBJ pretty soon. The MW division is in fact very weak. Not saying that there aren’t some great guys, but outside top 10 is pretty damn weak IMO.

Who is on a elite level in that division who???LW WW LHW HW division all have a legitimate top 5 fighters who can be considered elite, name the 5 in MW?…somebody??BW and FW are relatively new divisions in the sport but I’m sure they will eventually past the MW division it has always been the weakest!

Lombard vs Khalidov ??
Why can’t this happened? I’d like to see him against Tim Kennedy as well but not holding my breath now that Strikeforce is part of Zuffa. Not much left out there except, if he beats Khalidov, have him fight the winner of Jake Rosholt vs Thales Leites. After that, he fights winner of latest Bellator tourney winner.
If he wins all of those (and none of these are official, just me hoping), then you force him to fight winner of Spider Silva vs (Sonnen/Stann winner)
…side bar, I’d still like to see Silva fight Hendo while waiting for Sonnen/Stann winner because Hendo is getting old, he’s marketable right now after a couple wins and it keeps Silva busy as well.
Was at this event last night
a Long time reader but first time poster. This event was a great show for Australian mma and was held in Melbourne last night. Seeing as there is a law in melbourne which forbids cage fighting but sanction mma bouts a ring and not a cage was used
Not the most ‘star’ filled event in the world, But it did not disappoint! Only one fight on the card went to decision and it was a thorough beating. Arm bars to leg locks, rear naked chokes were used, a decent showing of suprising grappling chops and also including some big knockouts. Only a few reputable mma names were there including the two in the main event, the only other being soa palelei who thouroughly dominated what looked like a bloated up middle weight. He said he wanted to make it back to the ufc and strike force and looked great doing it but against less than stellar competition. I don’t see it happening for him.
Damn impressive final bout though, both looked in amazing shape with Jesse Taylor seeming to have slimmed down a tad. First round was the bellator champions 10-9 in which Lombard took Taylor down and beat on him in half guard while passing his guard like butter. Taylor scrambled back to his feet and landed a take down of his own as Lombard swept him and the round ended. Second round Lombard bests Taylor on the feet to start sprawling beautifully and hitting some nice punches to the dome and body of Taylor. Taylor landed a big take that was setup unusually well for a person like himself and he landed in half
guard and in a mere matter of seconds a beautiful sweep to Lombard diving on a leg forcing to Taylor to tap or snap
Lombard Looks the real deal. Don’t think he could get anywhere near silva but a player in the division he could be
