Yoshihiro Akiyama will drop down to welterweight after losing his last three fights in the middleweight division, according to Sponichi. After losing to Vitor Belfort at UFC 133, "Sexyama" apparently considered retirement before thinking better of it and finally deciding to take Dana White's advice and move down to the 170-pound division. Akiyama also said he would like to debut in his new division when the UFC heads to Japan in Feb. 2012. Any ideas on a possible opponent? Who would you like to see him fight in his new weight class?

There's only a handful of Japanese fighters in the UFC and you want them to fight and defeat each other?
i think Stun Gun is Korean
Thiago Silva is a political prisoner!!!

As long as he's sexy he'll be able to pursue other options
Fedor "The Can Crusher" Emeilianko IS NOT THE BEST HW EVER , in fact he sucks! he has the most padded record in the history of any combat sport, scratch that in the history of any sport. He has not changed as a fighter , he is still just as good as he was then, only difference is he isn’t fighting freaks and nobodies, I , along with many others have been duped into believing he is great, when clearly he is NOT! -I hate you the Dragon...one day
Does anyone know when Thiago Silva is eligible to fight again? I kind of miss that guy........
He would be lucky if
He can hang in the middle of the pack at 170.
I just found it funny how even though Akiyama kept on losing his opposition kept on getting better.
at this rate I think he is due for a title shot!
That was an asshole move to have him fight Belfort after 2 losses.
I know he agreed to it, but damn.

He needs to fight someone in the WW division that has some sort of following in Japan
…too bad most of the UFC’s WW were built in the UFC (hence the stupid muthafucking biases aaaaaaaargh!)….

explain please
He’s 1 – 3 and I for one think Belcher beat him.
He hasn’t dropped/hurt a single opponent or come close to a submission. All his fights just involve him plodding forward and getting pounded on.
Resist Much, Obey Little.
sure..
One: just cuz YOU think he won doesn’t mean a thing.. he beat Belcher.. moving on..
Besides the beating Vitor laid on him he held his own against some of the divisions toughest dudes.. all of which are naturally bigger than him.. he put up some damn good fights.. so yea he def belongs.. a drop down will do him good and he should be a force..
Hardy just sucks balls…

he held is own tho.. against all bigger, better fighters
That was my only point, so I think he’ll be pretty good at 170

I really like Akiyama
The guy has a massive heart and throws down. I think he could be a force at ww. The only person to stop him at mw was Vitor and that ain’t nothing to be ashamed about.

want to see him do well…hope they give him a good warm up fight as the weight cut might be rough…I like a lot of the names already mentioned…too bad lytle retired…
plus I want to see more of his walkout…best in MMA…IMO…will be goosebumps in Japan when he walks out…

the only reason why Akiyama decided to stay and the UFC not cutting him is because
they need a big japanese star to headline on the main card for UFC in Japan.
Is Okami not a big star in Japan?
