A bantamweight brouhaha is coming to "Shark City."
That's because Nick Pace brings word that he's been booked to throw leather with Miguel Torres at UFC 139: "Shogun vs. Henderson," which takes place on Nov. 19, 2011, at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California.
Pace has fought just twice under the UFC banner, memorably choking out Will Campuzano with a brand spankin' new choke that has since been dubbed "The Pace choke," before dropping a decision to a bloated Ivan Menjivar just last month.
Despite the impressive nature of his one victory inside the Octagon, he's now lost two of his last three bouts. He doesn't want to find out what happens if he makes it four and he's got some game competition ready to send him there.
Miguel Torres is also coming off a loss, albeit one fraught with controversy. After battling back-and-forth with Demetrious Johnson for three rounds, the judges decided the "Mouse" was just too "Mighty" and awarded him the victory.
That win catapulted Johnson into a title shot and relegated Torres down to the preliminary card.
It's been a tough couple of years for the East Chicago native. After beginning his career an amazing 36-1 and winning the WEC bantamweight championship, Torres has three of five fights and his place in the 135-pound division is up for discussion.
I don't want to call this a must-win for the former king of the mountain but he'll have some serious questions to answer if he loses.
UFC 139 is set for the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California, and will feature Strikeforce Light Heavyweight Champion Dan Henderson climbing back inside the Octagon to wage war against Mauricio Rua in what's been deemed a number one contender bout.
