Fantasy Football B-League Draft Recap

As VM already mentioned, both leagues drafted last night. The B-league had 11 of its 12 participants live at the draft; Phish was the only one who autopicked the whole draft. Before the draft, I had spoke of autodraft actually not being a bad way to pick a team. Well, Phish proved me right - as of right now, his team's Week 1 projected stats are the highest. Towards the end of the draft, Hurricane Irene roared back and made a sharp left turn and knocked ANS' internet connection out, thus forcing his last 3 picks to be autodrafted, as well, and leaving him without a kicker. Anyways, the draft was solid overall, with even Davey, B-leagues resident Englishman, making some good picks. Without further ado, the draft results from last night...

Now, as I said last night during the draft, I am not the be all and end all of Fantasy Football drafting, but I know a thing or two, so here's my pseudo-expert analysis on last nights draft, round-by-round.

Round 1

Best Pick: Phish Nation - Jamaal Charles: Autodraft did Phish a great service in this case. JC shoulda been gone already, he wasn't, and the rankings did Phish a solid here. Can't really give him credit for this one, but the best value of the round is right here.

Worst Pick: doonerthesooner - DeAngelo Williams: A ton of us are going to be eating our words if this pans out, but right now the consensus says that #5 overall is WAYYYYYYYYYYYYY too high for D. Williams to be off the board. Only time will tell, but definitely a reach in my opinion.

Round 2

Best Pick: Brutus892 (aka littledemons) - LeSean McCoy: Absurd value right here. McCoy anywhere in the 2nd round is great value, and he fell to 18th overall. I would have taken him 3rd, great pick. Honorable mention goes to Davey taking Vick the pick before, as he fell too far too, but as good as he could be, McCoy is more valuable and was picked slightly later.

Worst Pick: JerseyDevil - Dez Bryant: I don't doubt that Dez is going to have a good year, but this was a reach. JD probably could have picked him up a couple rounds later. With Romo coming off an injury, and the caliber of WRs still on the board at this time, not a great pick at this point in the draft.

Round 3

Best Pick: YouveGotGold - Matt Forte: I like Forte right here, especially in a PPR league. This wasn't really a round with any standout good picks, so I would say overall, Forte is the best value here. I'm also gonna throw a quick honorable mention at myself for snagging an elite WR in Jennings this late.

Worst Pick: Brutus892 - LeGarrette Blount: Another guy that will definitely have a good year, but had no reason to go this early. There is a 100% chance that he hangs on until the next round, if not later, if you felt like you needed to have him, but Brutus just jumped the gun a bit here.

Round 4

Best Pick: David W-S - Miles Austin: I'm very surprised Austin fell this far, I probably would have taken him in round 3 if Jennings wasn't there. For someone who doesn't even pay attention to this kind of football, definitely a solid choice. Shout outs to Phish and ANS for their solid WR picks this round, as well.

Worst Pick: JerseyDevil - Mark Ingram: The top of the round is just not kind to JD, as once again he jumped the gun on a player. Ingram will have decent numbers, but he's in a crowded backfield on a pass first team. Not the best move in this spot, as he woulda hung around until the next round.

Round 5

Best Pick: magicmike - Antonio Gates: I'm going to have to give some props to myself here for snagging the only truly consistently elite TE in the draft in the 5th round. This pick also started the run on TEs, as 3 more went in this round.

Worst Pick: Brutus892 - Chad Ochocinco: The jury is still out on #85, but even if he has the year that his supporters say he could with Tom Brady, the 5th round is still a bit too early. I'm of the opinion that he is going to have a rather pedestrian year, in which case the 5th round is much much to early for an aging average receiver in a new system where he's no longer the go-to wideout.

Round 6

Best Pick: ANS - BenJarvus Green-Ellis: There was a solid run on RBs in this round, and ANS came out with probably the second best one, in my opinion, with the latest pick. The Law Firm will carry most of the load in NE, and will do so admirably. Solid pick.

Worst Pick: Jersey Devil - Brandon Jacobs: Stop giving JD picks at the top of rounds. That is all...

Round 7

Best Pick: ClayMMAn - Julio Jones: I think Jones is going to have a great year, despite the fall off the Falcons are destined to have. The prognosis on rookie WRs is usually not very good, but JJ should break the mold. Could be a 7th round steal, as he could play himself into a 3rd round value this season.

Worst Pick: No exceedingly poor picks this round, so I'ma call two people out. Griffinfan05, I know this is a PPR league, but as I told you last night, I think you went after Danny Amendola a bit too early. He does get targets, but thats about it; he's not gonna get you much yardage or TDs. And ANS, BJGE was a great pick last round, but if you need a QB, you can't leave Freeman on the board for Kevin Kolb. It's just not the smart pick.

Round 8

Best Pick: Griffinfan05 - Fred Jackson: I thought I was going to get a great value pick in Jackson at the end of the round, but GF stole him from me one pick ahead. I probably would have picked Jackson a couple rounds earlier had my needs turned out a little differently. Definitely a superb value for round 8.

Worst Pick: Brutus892 - Lee Evans: A lot of people think Evans is going to do well with the big arm of Joe Flacco in Baltimore; I am not one of those people. I think he's going to have a poor year and probably should not have been picked for another couple rounds, at least.

Round 9

Best Pick: doonerthesooner - Michael Bush: No really great picks this round, but dooner recognized that the worse Bush went off the board first, and decided to jump on the better one.

Worst Pick: ClayMMAn - NYG Defense: A little too early for defenses boys, and WAY too early for this one. The Giants will not have a great defense this year, seeing as their team had a disastrous off season, and they are going to be on the field A LOT.

Round 10

Best Pick: ANS - Eli Manning: Realizing he made a mistake and that he had a lemon on his hands with Kolb, ANS went out and got arguably the best quarterback remaining on the board to back him up, and as I envision, become the starter for his team no later than week 8.

Worst Pick: ClayMMAn - Denarius Moore: I'm not even going to talk about the actual pick, as Clay said it all himself. In the chat box for the draft, Clay said this after the Moore pick..."oops"

Round 11

Best Pick: YouveGotGold - AJ Green: People are afraid of rookie wideouts, but when a great one is there, ya gotta take him. Good value for this round.

Worst Pick: magicmike - Cedric Benson: Regretted it as soon as I did it.

Round 12

Best Pick: JerseyDevil - Ryan Torain: I liked this pick a lot. He's second right now on a very volatile depth chart. He could end up first sooner than later, and he showed flashes of brilliance last year, enough to make me, and JD apparently, think he's capable of shouldering the load.

Worst Pick: Brutus892 - Willis McGahee: I'm sorry, I don't think ANOTHER change of scenery is going to lead McGahee back to prominence. Shanahan is gone, so Denver isn't runners paradise anymore (like it could be for Torain) and he's already behind a budding star in feature back Knowshon Moreno. Don't see the value here.

Round 13

Best Pick: OJR - Donovan McNabb: I wouldn't sleep on McNabb this year, he could quietly put up some great numbers for a backup Q. And in the 13th round, it doesn't get much more value than that. Honorable mentions to Davey and donkey for their picks of Cassel and Jones, respectively; also decent value picks this late.

Worst Pick: magicmike - Derrick Mason: I like Mason, but I left James Jones on the board because I wanted a player from my team. Pick with your head, kids, not with your heart.

Round 14

Best Pick: David W-S - Rashad Jennings: One of the most underrated RBs in the NFL, will put up decent numbers as a last option off Davey's bench. And if MJD goes down? My God, I don't even wanna think about that, because then Davey just stole a 4th rounder.

Worst Pick: YouveGotGold - Detroit DEF: I'm not sold on it yet. They draft another DT and suddenly its the second coming of the Iron Curtain or the Sack Exchange. I could be wrong about this, but unfortunately for YGG, I could be very, very right.

Round 15

Nothing too special this round at all. Solid picks by dooner (Kendall Hunter) and Davey (Ben Tate); not as solid picks by OJR (Jason Snelling) and JD (David Garrard).

Round 16

Best Pick: doonerthesooner - Cam Newton: With the announcement of him starting, who knows, dooner mighta just picked up the steal of a lifetime. Special mention of myself for closing the draft out in style with Billy Cundiff. Yeahh buddy.

Worst Pick: ANS - Greg Little: As much as I'd love to give this to Griffinfan for picking Victor Cruz, only because I'm from NY and I still don't know who the fuck that is, it has to be ANS. Little isn't a bad pick in and of itself, but autodraft left him without a motherfucking kicker. Shame on you, autodraft, shame on you.
