Former UFC welterweight number one contender Jake Shields, who's currently on the rebound after getting jabbed into oblivion by Georges St. Pierre back in April, tries to get back on his horse this Saturday night (Sept. 17) in the main event of UFC Fight Night 25 in New Orleans.
Opposing him is surging division prospect Jake Ellenberger.
Our fiscal friends over at Odds Shark have pegged Shields (26-5-1) as the -200 favorite, which shouldn't come as a surprise considering the stellar career he's had thus far. But how will he be affected by the recent death of his father, along with his first career loss in over six years?
Those factors may have helped Ellenberger (24-5), who is a +160 underdog, tighten the line as we get closer to their upcoming "Battle on the Bayou."
Despite his propensity for taking short-notice fights whenever necessary, the collegiate wrestling champion has amassed an impressive 4-1 record in the UFC, with his only defeat coming in his 2009 debut.
Even that loss was an extremely close split decision defeat to Carlos Condit, who is currently knocking on the door to a title shot of his own. A win over former championship challenger Jake Shields would go a long way in putting Ellenberger over the top.
But can he do it?
And do you agree with the fight lines in this welterweight contest?
