Should the UFC dissolve Strikeforce?

This has been the question since Zuffa acquired the Strikeforce promotion earlier this year. But, as a fan of MMA I realized that Strikeforce should not be dissolved. It should at least be Zuffa’ B-League to there A-League UFC. In the since of “Business as usual.” Zuffa should end Strikeforce, move there marketable fighters to UFC, and use Strikeforce past fights as promotional footage to promote those fighters to new fans. Unfortunately, I’m not a new fan. I’m not a part-time (I watch it only when it’s on spike) fan. I love MMA. I need MMA in my life. I’m not worried or concerned about the business aspect of MMA. And that fact leads me to say “Keep Strikeforce, Please Zuffa.”

I review both current roster (UFC and Strikeforce) and came up with this.

Move the following UFC fighters to Strikeforce;

Heavyweights –

·         Joey Beltran (He can be a champion there)

·         Heath Herring (Where is he?)

·         Mark Hunt (Used to be good. But, he’s on your undercard for contractual reasons. He’s marketable, after a few wins.)

·         Dave Herman (Let him fight more or move him)

·         Stefan Struve (I say keep him in UFC. But, before you cut him move him to Strikeforce)

Light Heavyweights –

·         Brandon Vera (Remember he was cut until the failed drug test by Thiago Silva)

·         Keith Jardine (Keep him on the Strikeforce roster. He’s your Jorge Gurgel. Good fights)

·         Luiz Cane (Before you cut him, move him)

·         Eliot Marshall (A change in scenery might help him grow)

·         Cyrille Diabate (Currently a UFC roster filler)

·         Igor Pokrajac (Don’t really know him. That’s my point.)

Middleweights –

·         Jorge Rivera (Love this guy. He fights. Just has bad luck in this stacked competitive division. Move him ASAP. This is the next Strikeforce Champion.)

·         Alan Belcher (The only reason why he’s on this list is because I want to see more of him. Once he is completely healed up. Push him in the UFC or move him and then push him in Strikeforce.)

·         C.B. Dollaway (No luck. Needs to grow a little.)

·         Jason Macdonald (One loss away from been cut again, so move him.)

·         Tim Credeur (Like him too. Good fights)

·         Nate Quarry (Hasn’t been the same since the Rich Franklin KO.)

·         Dan Miller (Another good fighter. Shouldn’t be cut from UFC ever. But, if it comes to that move him.)

·         Steve Cantwell (Only on this list because of the recent additions of Cung Le and Jason Miller from Strikeforce)

·         Rafael Natal (Read Steve Cantwell for reason)

Welterweights –

·         Josh Neer (Just move him.)

·         Matt Brown (Like him, but if you’re thinking about cutting him move him first.)

·         Dan Hardy (After he losses again. And he will unless they give him a “give-me” fight. And yes there are those types of fights in the UFC. Example; Dennis Hallman, James Wilks, or DaMarques Johnson. Don’t get me wrong, Hardy can fight. Just not good wrestlers. He’s a Strikeforce Champion.)

Lightweights –

·         Yves Edwards (Can still fight)

·         Mac Danzig (Move him)

·         Takanori Gomi (No UFC Luck. Can still fight)

·         Mark Bocek (Just a list filler)

*Could name a lot more fighters in each division but these are notable fighters that casual fans know and would watch on Strikeforce.

Move the following Strikeforce fighters to the UFC;

Heavyweights –

·         Daniel Cormier (After he wins the Grand Pix)

·         Josh Barnett (Good match-ups waiting for him.)

·         Antonio Silva (Him vs. Roy Nelson)

·         Sergei Kharitonov (Marketable)

·         Shane del Rosario (Him vs. Brendan Schaub)

Light heavyweights –

·         Gegard Mousasi (Do I have to explain this one)

·         King Mo (Him vs. Rampage, Classic)

·         Rafael Cavalcante (Just move him)

Middleweights –

·         Luke Rockhold (Guess Souza vs. Silva is out now)

·         Ronaldo Souza (Him vs. Damian Mia)

·         Tim Kennedy (Him vs. Brian Stann, who is the real Captain America)

·         Melvin Manhoef (Him vs. Chris Leben)

Welterweights –

·         Tyron Woodley (Move him)

*No more else in that division worth moving. That’s why Nick Diaz left.

            Lightweights –

·         Gilbert Melendez (#1 draft pick)

·         Josh Thomson (Move him)

·         K.J. Noons (Move him)

These changes will help promote both promotions. And will help MMA and UFC more. It allows the UFC to be the number 1 promotion (putting the best and most interesting fights). It allows Strikeforce to develop fighters and make them marketable. Zuffa has to realize that they have a national television deal. They need to make sure that every fighter that the put on Fox is marketable. A casual fan knows the UFC roster. But, the new fans (the fox football fans) don’t. Every household has cable and at least 80% of those households have Showtime. This my opinion as a casual mma fan.
