That'd be great but since UFC owns SF it would be better if he wins, then he comes over to the UFC

Less negotiation power

By taking Overeem out of the Tourny in what most believed Overeem would have won, Overeem would had given the UFC a more difficult time in getting a superfight in the UFC, him being both Strikeforce champ and Tourny winner along with being long time undefeated.

Seriously?

They are gonna make way more money by putting him against Brock on PPV and the subsequent exposure for Reem by facing the highest profile fighter the UFC has. Duh!

by Pickafight on Sep 11, 2011 5:34 PM EDT up reply actions

Because Reems last fight in the tourny was such an exciting bout.

I think they pulled him out early because they were worried he wouldn’t have any marketability against the top the UFC has to offer if he put on another crappy performance.

You mind your own damn business.

by jestermarcus on Sep 11, 2011 3:00 AM EDT via mobile up reply actions

undoubtedly reem v brock is going to make them more money than the tourny ever would

but at the time he got pulled there was a “what the hell, they killed the tourny” moment, and it did. which may have looked like them shooting themselves in the foot

so the big “maybe” of them dropping the hammer on this whole tourny for some “big announcments” doesn’t sound all that crazy to me. cormier could be very marketable, if he loses to barnett he loses a lot of steam. barnet is as saleable as he’s ever been, if he loses to cormier then he’s another washed up pride guy. better to snaffle them and have them lose on ppv for real money

Not a clear cut fight imo regardless of last night but I favour Cormier slightly at the moment.

good question!

i had Barnett from the start but Cormier looked superb last night. What are the UFC gonna do with Barnett if he wins? And taking Cormier in off a loss will lose some of his dazzle. Are the UFC spiteful enough to just end thee tourney now?I dont think so but we will see

Yeah Cormier is a bad match up for Barnett

Barnetts hands standing have never really been dangerous, I think Bigfoot had much more dangerous hands than Barnett. But Barnett has that Sonnen like style were he throws strikes to set up his takedowns and if he can catch Cormier off balance he is one of the few guys I can see get Cormier to his back.

Interesting fight for sure as I had Barnett to win from the start but Cormier has me second guessing myself

It is still an easy sell for Cormier if he loses because how new he is to the sport.

Not hard to just to come up with the fact that he is still developing and still a great talent.

That is tough. Uncle Dana has been forgiving before in the past. I think they would take him in and give him a terrible match up styalistically for him.

If he wins then that is more money for them in the future and if he loses Dana can put his little smile on Twitter and say told ya so. Win-Win. Unless he wins and cheats, that would suck for them.

the thought that crossed my mind tonight was

brazilians invented this sport to show off thier art and less then two decades later it has been taken over by american wrestlers (of all kinds) who will dominate this sport today, tommorow and beyond.

that must sting for current and aspiring martial artists who will for the forseeable future always be at a disadvantage to american wrestlers who develop thier skills to average or better than average in other diciplines. and for those who are better than average (cain, jones) thier opponents are f**ked

american wrestlers have basically run european fighters back to where ever the hell they came from with thier tails between thier legs scramling to find a way to even stay competitive

dos santos is bad man but i garuntee you he is nervous of getting embarresed,

Q Jackson is ganna come out aggressive as all hell and swing with everything hes got hoping to land, knowing hes about to get schooled by a 23 y old

cormier with LESS THAN 2 YEARS OF MMA EXPERIENCE made a supposed top 5 brazilian monster with high level bjj look like a chump

I think this is a bit of an over-reaction

Butm my fellow Albanian friend, I can definitely see what you mean. Wrestlers almost always seem to possess either freak strength, freak conditioning, or both. Cormier and King Mo demonstrated that tonight. When I saw Mo hanging that left hand down, and how loose he looked, his hands just seemed so lethal. My friends and I were just waiting for him to knock out Roger, once he got Roger on his side, all it took was one punch to clean his clock. He was looking for that behind the ear shot and man was it beautiful. The thing is, nothing is certain in a fight and this is especially true in MMA. Upsets happen all the time and some people just don’t stack up well against others. There’s no end all, be all solution to fights. A fight’s a fight and anything can happen.

and dos santos is ganna get smoked

by dia mette on Sep 11, 2011 3:13 AM EDT up reply actions

I don't think it's always so cut and dry...

Okami is a good wrestler and Silva destroyed him. I was really hoping Sonnen would win the fight because he talked so much trash, but Silva still beat him. Plus, Silva did have a rib injury going into that fight and he still managed to pull out a W. I do think Wrestlers have a natural advantage in a cage, but lots of fighters are able to negate that advantage with great striking and quick Sprawls. I think what gives wrestlers a good advantage over more “traditionally” trained martial artists is that wrestlers focus HEAVILY on conditioning. They’re usually faster and stronger, and wrestlers usually embody the “win at any cost” attitude. There are exceptions to this rule, but we see it a lot. When King Mo was getting rocked by Fejiao, he kept trying to get that single leg, Lesnar staying as active as he could while getting smashed in the face by Carwin, Velasquez recovering after getting rocked no less than 3 times in the Cheick Kongo bout. But then, we have exceptions as well. Junior Do Santos put a clinic on Carwin, Fejiao put a hurt on King Mo (I think Mo will win a rematch though and always root for him), Anderson Silva beat Olympic Wrestller Dan Henderson, and I am sure there are other examples. I do think that Star is right about that, the cage does favor wrestlers, but Dia does have a point. I don’t think it’s so cut and dry as wrestlers will always prevail, however. I’m good though bro, it’s cool to see an Albanian in these parts.

by Mustafa G on Sep 11, 2011 4:50 AM EDT up reply actions

If you watched tonight

They explained that Mo had no ACL in his knee going into the fight. His body had absorbed the cadaver ACL he had put in after the Kawamura fight.

Gimme 1 round!

by ItBurnzWhenIP on Sep 11, 2011 5:03 AM EDT up reply actions

Also about Dos Santos vs Velasquez...

I don’t think Junior’s going to necessarily get smoked because he won’t be able to stop the takedown, I just think Velasquez is better at mixing up stuff than Dos Santos. Junior is usually going into his bouts as a straight up boxer. Cain won’t do that, Cain combos in punches and kicks and then transitions into Takedowns. When a fighter is transparent in their attacks, that’s when they lose. I knew Fedor was going to lose against Bigfoot when I saw him swinging for the fences and not trying any other techniques. When I saw him doing the same against Henderson, I got a sick feeling in my stomach. As for Aldo fighting a good wrestler, I kind of agree. The 145 and 135 divisions are still very new to most fans and we haven’t seen enough of the fighters to gauge how good they are. I don’t think anyone expected Roop to put a beating on Grispi, but it happened.

In all fairness...

Silva cut down to 260 and was about 280 in their fight after he hydrated and ate. Fedor was 230 against him, 50 pound difference. Cormier had a 33 pound difference against him in his bout against Bigfoot. I do think it makes a difference, but also, if you just watch the fight, you will see Cormier definitely fought smarter and didn’t just rush in with looping right hooks. His striking was crisper, more disciplined, and more accurate.

I hate to say it.

But with Cormier winning tonight, I think it sort of proved that this gp wasnt anything near what it was hyped up to be. Fedor was over the hill, bigfoot was built up from a win over a light heavy and a win over an old Fedor, and Werdum just ruined the first round. The real final should be Overeem vs Barnett, which would have saved this tournament.
I love Daniel but him being in the final is bad for the tournement.
Fedor and the people who beat him made this tournament what it was, but the fact that it was an over the hill Fedor undermined the hype for both guys who beat him, therefore undermining Cormier.

Fedor just got knocked further

But fedors never been in his prime either

his record is a joke big nogs his only credible win and anyone who thinks hes the greatest heavyweight ever is seriously retarded

good job Danny boy

I think Bigfoot was shocked when he felt his power and it sucked all the life out of him. When Bigfoot beat Fedor he thought he was gonna just roll over everyone but he got a wake up call from Dan.

If you step back and think about it Cormier's victory is not that surprising...

…(perhaps how easy it was)…he’s a world class wrestler…he trains at AKA who know how to train fighters…and he has Cain as a sparring partner day in and day out…as far as Fedor goes…his time has passed….he had a run in MMA that will never be matched…enough bashing from the TUF brainwashed fans.

i started watching from ufc 3

fedor was the best fighter in a poor group of fighters ,you dont lose that ability he never had it in the first place ,his record speaks for itself ,nobody whos important tim sylvia was the same he was just the best in a shit division. Big nog is his only credible win and in ten years thats pathetic, fedor is a joke and will be forgotten in ten years,He hasnt held a championship belt that has real gold on it,

i have to disagree here a bit

only with sylvia, he was def better back in the day. watch some of his older fights again. he actually was pretty entertaining, but that being said sylvia in his prime couldn’t hang in the ufc today, not even a question imo

Decision (unanimous)

Decision (split) !!!

Why is it even a question?

Where’s Matt Hughes today? Chuck Liddell? What exactly is the point?

by grapplefan on Sep 11, 2011 12:51 PM EDT up reply actions

and matt hughes has fought in the ufc the whole time

against the best ,fedor has fought his fights against ppl with the same technique level as tank abbott ,name one fighter hes fought apart from big nog whos a credible mma fighter and he hasnt lost to them,Answer is u cant ,hes mid level fighter at best on a par with ken shamrock and u know it

poor group of fighters...?

…someone loses and they suck?…that’s ridiculous….Pride had all the best hw in the world period…then when there was a chance to face the UFC’s best he obliterated them both….the sport has absolutely evolved…and you cannot stay inactive for long…and that was likely Fedor’s biggest downfall…at the same time 30 plus fights takes its toll…another interesting point is that every fighter (outside of Tito O) hails his accomplishments….the bashing is pretty much left to the spoon-fed TUF alumni sprinkled with a few Steve Jennum fans.

weres the evidence titos the only one who bashes him ?

fedors lost his last 3 to werdum who couldnt hang in the ufc

big foot who almost got ko’d by mike pyle and got destroyed by an overweight chubby light heavyweight, and hendo who has spent alot of his career at middleweight .Fedor has only beat ufc rejects who wouldnt even get in the top 15 in the ufc today, fedor tried carving a hall of fame career by fighting cans and got found out .at the end of the day hes a mid level fighter nothing more. His record is nothing to be proud off .As for chuck and hughes .Chuck is alot older than fedor and hes fought far more tougher opponents than fedor ever will. And he fought them consistently .and Hughes is still going ,yeah he lost to bj but hes still active and a threat and he fights elite fighters only ,Fedor picks washed up drunks and still struggles, Fedor never had a prime and to be honnest he shud still be in it .But he never had it in the first place ,It was an illusion .Fedor couldn’t last a round with anyone in the ufc’s light heavy or heavy divisions ,Shit i doubt he could hang with the top 8 middleweights, and i aint no tuf half ass fan ,Ive been watching since ufc 3 i remember it all .at the end of the day u can blame fedors mangement all u want but fedors got a voice. If he really wanted to fight the best he would of snatched danas arms off but he didnt and we all know why to keep the illusion going .Fedor lovers call everyone dilusional ,and only fans since tuf but the reality is your the the ones living a lie ,
