UFC 133: Bernard Hopkins schools Rashad Evans on the 'Sweet Science' in advance of Tito Ortiz fight (Video)
You boxing aficionados should enjoy this one. World Champion Bernard Hopkins met up with Rashad Evans in advance of his light heavyweight showdown against Tito Ortiz at UFC 133 on Aug. 6 in Philadelphia.
"B-Hop" schooled "Suga" on the "Sweet Science," teaching him a few techniques he could utilize when he throws hands with "The Huntington Beach Bad Boy" this Saturday. But will he put them to good use? Or end up on his back for most of the night?

Ummmmm
Sorry if I’m late to the party on this one but…..doesn’t Hopkins hate MMA?
Or am I thinking of another boxer?
I think you're pretty tough....don't I?

He used to.
But he’s since changed his mind and now respects the sport. I posted a vid from him talking about it somewhere on this damn site.
Forget it Donny, you're out of your element.
Cool
I remember him talking some shit.
Nice to see a legit guy like him come around.

hopkins kissed some serious MMA Ass in that video
he admitted he was wrong several times… I hated him for that,,, but now that he’s seen the light’’ he has eased my pain

Gotta love fighting knowledge exchanges like this.
Especially from an all time legend of the game.

Agreed.
Really great to watch him get so passionate and drop so much knowledge like that. Would be a trip to see Evans knock Tito down with a left hook the way Hopkins was showing him.
Forget it Donny, you're out of your element.
Funny thing is, thats how Tito dropped Bader!
Tito knows this shit already ;-)

Tito rushed straight forward, wasn't any misdirection involved

He comes in low tho and that has the same effect as the misdirect as Bader doesn't expect the hook to the face.

It was a straight forward direct attack
And it’s more of an uppercut, if you notice Bader puts his left hand up and Tito’s punch comes inside his forearm.

Maynard caught Frankie with the left hook that BHop was talking bout
Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the law
It was a straight forward attack but he looks to be feigning a TD initally to me which catches Bader unaware
Either way, the sentiment of B-Hop’s advice is still there. The surprise element and speed not so much power. It’s not a strong punch for all he carries his weight over in it. He doesn’t even fully extend his arm.
Tito calls it the Upperhook and reckons he was taught it in camp for that fight.
Great gif BTW

Rashad
Is looking like he is in the best shape of his career.
Right??!! Dude has been training hard!!
I know Satans got a sixpack... We train together!
I came in here speficially to say those exact words.
Rashad is retardedly in shape.

i think hopkins sees the potential to have a ton of mma guys come to him to train their boxing.
off hand i can’t think of a better guy to learn from. he is incredible defensive minded, which is perfect for mma gloves, and he is as skilled and accomplished as it gets in the sweet science.

was on the same thought
love the knowledge he drops and love the dude as a fighter. He’d make an amazing asset to have in training camp for sure, being that he’s an active fighter, sparring and coaching all in one.

that “half a target” bit must’ve reminded rashad of lyoto machida, thats exactly how he stands, even at the weigh in’s, it was hilarious how rampage got offended by that.
the traditional boxing stance doesnt translate to MMA too well
much harder to throw kicks and sprawl from that position… what Machida has is not a boxing stance, its a karate stance (but I know what you mean, he couldnt touch Machida)

Machida shouldnt have been able to sprawl is what your saying?
Wait, maybe if Shad even shot in. What an idiot. That was a no brainer lay-n-pray pretty easy win. Hmmm, I think i’m fast. I ko’d some fuckin named nobody and now i think i can box with a guy that’s never ever lost. To actually credible competition.

Ive stopped blaming him fully.
I wanna know where the hell Greg Jackson and crew were for that fight?

He was the man in the ring.
like the guy needs to be on top of his shit. And if your corner isnt right. fix it. Your Top 5.
"its whoever gets their first, speed kills"
case in point, Evens vs. Liddell, Suga got there first.
Great vid!
Fuck that noise
I’ll never forget listening to this chump ramble on about mma and man panties. Repeating his lines like there all clever. I don’t buy into the whole ‘seen the light’ shit
I'm better then whatever your best at. Come get some!
Word
I know B hop went on a scramble about MMA being gay but, my man did respect Rashad and try to teach him the depths of boxing. He tried to teach Rashad stuff that kind of came natural to him when practicing all those years, should be able to learn from it.
Long live the dragon!!!

2 things
1, it’d be awkward to get advice like that in front of so many people, kinda hard to be yourself.
2. If Bernard was more humble, he’d respect Rashad and what he does and is good at and after giving Rashad advice such as in the footwork and angles, Bernard SHOULD ask Rashad if being in any angles like that leave him open for any single leg or double leg takedowns.
I highly doubt Bernard knows the mechanics of wrestling or impacts his advice would have.
And plus, he’s the older one, the accomplished one, the celebrated one – so Rashad did good by shutting up and soaking up that ism from a legend.

Hopkins would make an excellent boxing coach, especially for someone who needs
to improve their striking game
if it werent rocket science, everyone would be doin it.

There isnt shit that any boxer can teach a MMA fighter
at the top level.
Really????
So….
What about a wrestler…can they teach MMA guys anything?
Or Judo or Muay Thai or BJJ…? I suppose they can’t teach MMA guys anything either??
DUMB ASS STATEMENT OF THE DAY!!!
BIG FAIL!!
I know Satans got a sixpack... We train together!
Nice video'n'all but....
…Is Rashard gonna use any of that so close to the fight without time to train it properly?
All seems a bit contrived to me….plus not very smart to post it online unless it’s some kind of bluff to get Tito off guard….
I know Satans got a sixpack... We train together!
8 minutes with Hopkins... Shit... imagine what a year training under that guy could do for some of MMAs top talent...
shit!!! Would be crazy

That would be good.....but I'm not sure they could afford his time
I know Satans got a sixpack... We train together!
and how much would that cost i guess is the other question lol!!
I guess he’d have to do it for the love and considering hes only just changed his mind about MMA we may be a bit far off that happening…

Yea, boxing's like High School...
Doesn’t work in reality…Or it doesn’t work in the most realistic fighting sport in the world-MMA. Kindergarten was fun. “Those Roman Gods, this is the philosophy…”
