Can Tito Ortiz earn a title shot with a stoppage of Rashad Evans at UFC 133 this weekend? It's apparently possible. Hear the argument right here.

Buisness wise it makes sense, but it doesn't really make sense in the making sense department lol.

He has only won one fight in a littler over 4 and a half years and is going to be fighting a very ring rusted Rashad who didn’t get a full preparation for Tito. I would think Tito would need one more win after Rashad regardless of how he finishes in my mind.

Californication-SoCal-SouthCaliStunNa-Cali is the most knowledgable poster on Mania, in regards to all things MMA, BBQ, milk, movies, and women. I should have learned from the fallen before me not to go up against him. NNR has no idea what’s in store for him, like me, he will join the beheaded on Cali’s Hit List.

Why is this fight even relevant?

That’s right – its not. If hell were to freeze over and Ditto won, if the UFC identified him as the # 1 contender for a title fight, then that would be the end of the UFC for many fans. They guy won 1 fight in his last 5 and was a stand in to what is becoming one of the worst main events. The UFC is become a recycling operation.

When in doubt, shoot one out.

If tito won I think the ufc would want rampage to beat jones because rampage vs tito would be big money maker..that’s all its really about

Would they even fight eachother?

Thought they were pals/training partners one time?

Yeah I heard they are friends but I think they would put that to the side especially at this point in tito’s career

Rampage would

Rampage knows what it means to Tito plus it may suit him best to face tito who in comparison sucks at boxing.

Have to think Tito would be in line for a title shot if he won impressively over Evens… but it’s not not gonna happen

IF Tito:

1. Knocks out or submits Evans then yes he should.
2.Beats Evans everywhere for 3 whole rounds>

For the UFC it is big business if they can justify an Ortiz vs. Jones/Rampage fight later this year. I’m sure Rampage and Ortiz could put aside their friendship with a title on the line (if Quinton wins). The UFC is not the NFL so standings don’t matter and earning stuff means (can we play you out as a contender even though 2 wins in 6 years aint much). Ortiz as a main even draw one last time will sell huge and i expect this show to do better then UFC 132 by a few thousand buys at the very least.

Dana Whiute might disagree with Ortiz but he knows what he has meant to the growth of the UFC/MMA and that no matter what their is a huge following of Ortiz to sell him against anybody.

all about money

Not about best possible match ups its about what will benefit the company the most

Regardless, it would make sense from a divisional standpoint too.

Because Rashad was automatically the next title challenger prior to JBJ’s injury. And no one else would deserve it at this point as there will be no one not name JBJ at 205 with a win over a top 3 guy. Money wise, it probably doesnt sell as good as Rashad-Jones due to the feud but tito will find a way to market it. And no matter what LHW is the division for MMA so ppl will always fork over $ to watch meaningful fights in that division.

Sometimes, these things happen in MMA

rampage vs tito for the title or jones vs evans for the title rampage vs evans2 for the title….all makes the ufc smile

I kind of think we can rule Shogun out of that list.

If the UFC would like to retain fans......

they should really think about making main events a true superfight. It’s time. We all deserve it.

what would qualify as a "super" fight?

i have mixed feelings about tito gettin a shot if he beats rashad. i’m by no means a tito supporter, but i am a fan, and yes there is a difference. when i think of tito, i still like to think about pre-cracked skull tito, the one who helped build the ufc, the one who got spanked by randy, they one who got his big ol’ noggin blasted by chuck….

ok so he’s won one fight in the last 100 years, but how many times have we, as fans, questioned who they gave a title shot to? there have been plenty of times where gsp and anderson silva have both stepped into the cage with people who had no business being there..i’m not blasting ufc/dana/joe silva, but they do what they can to give the right person their shot (okami is not a good example, he deserved his shot a while ago). its been said a million times on here, when it comes down to it, this is a business, and the goal is to make money…..put tito in a title fight against jones or rampage, and that shit will sell

by tyfoon42 on Aug 2, 2011 10:06 AM EDT reply actions

2 wins in 5 years does not equal a title shot

THIS

He should have to go through Machida to be considered, and at least 2 more wins over top competition.

by Spiffy on Aug 2, 2011 11:14 AM EDT up reply actions

maybe you missed the point in my post b/c i completely agree with you. does he deserve it, no..but how many other “number one contenders” in other divisions deserved it? its all about the money.

i feel that tito should have to beat shogun, forest, rampage, or even some other contender to get a shot. he needs 3 wins (including the bader win). but like i said, dana and the fertitas are about the money, and tito sells, no matter what

by tyfoon42 on Aug 2, 2011 11:22 AM EDT up reply actions

Simply Retarded

He’s not going to beat Rashad, but if he did it would not warrant anything close to a title shot. I’m sure Dana would love the opportunity and that this was likely part of what got Tito to take the fight in the first place (Dana promising Tito a title shot if he wins), but it makes a mockery of the sport and ranking system.

by G Squat on Aug 2, 2011 10:08 AM EDT reply actions

they’ve been making a mockery of the sport since dan hardy got a shot at the title

by tyfoon42 on Aug 2, 2011 11:25 AM EDT up reply actions

makes sense

how would he not be up for a title shot he would have beat the arguably number 2 guy in the lhw div hell yea he should be in the mix or get a title shot if he beats evans its logical an people who say but tito hasnt been relevant in 4 years an hasnt won well umm yea he has the number 7 an if he beats evans arguably the number 2 or 3 guy in the div he would be relevant an look at page he only has 2 wins an one isnt even over a top 10 opponent in hamil an the other is ranked lower than evans… make sense to me if tito got a crack at the belt after an if he gets a win over evans
