Jon Fitch, who injured his shoulder and has been out of action since his Feb. 27 draw with B.J. Penn, has been cleared to fight again, as he explained on Twitter.
"I'm back! Dr. Kavitne gave me the ok to fight."
Fitch has repeatedly stated his desire to appear on the UFC 139 fight card coming to his backyard in San Jose on Nov. 19. But he also said he only wants to fight current or former champions. You Maniacs care to find an opponent for him? Anyone that fits the bill?

Who the hell does he think he is. His only championship match he got completely and utterly dominated for every minute of every round. How does that earn you the right to only fight guys who’ve achieved more than you in the sport?
Shields is the obvious choice here. And Shields is a former champion, so there! Then if he survives that, he can fight whatever’s left of Nick Diaz, another former champ. If he wins both of those, I say let him move up to MW and stop bitching.

the only thing about Fitch that impressed me
was how well he could take a beating. I don’t mean that sarcastically. GSP beat him up as bad as I’ve ever seen anyone get beat up and he never quit. I don’t like the guy, but he is a tough SOB.

Franklin didn't back out of a fight. He turned down a last-minute replacement.
After what happened to him last time he fought a much bigger guy (Forrest) I don’t blame him at all for turning down Gustafson on 2 1/2 weeks notice. That wasn’t the fight he agreed to. He agreed to Lil’ Nog. When Dana offered him Gustafson he said he only wanted to fight big names. Dana said he didn’t blame him and neither do I. Gustafson is huge and dangerous and Franklin had everything to lose and nothing to gain by taking that fight. Rich is a respected former champ and his last 5 fights have been against other legendary former champs. Why would he want a fight on short notice against a dangerous guy that most fans have never heard of bumped up from the undercard.

Does Fitch mean he’ll only fight current or former UFC champions, or do champions from Strikeforce or Pride count? I wasn’t sure if fighting Jake Shields is beneath him, since he’s never held a UFC title.
I’d like to see him fight Josh Koscheck, but he refuses. Serra has held the title, but I don’t think it would be a competitive fight.
Here are some people that I think might make it interesting to fight him:
- Carlos Condit
- Johny Hendricks
- Martin Kampmann
- Dong Hyun Kim
- Rick Story
- Charlie Brenneman
yeah, except maybe Condit or Kim
Nobody’s outgrappled Kim yet and his only loss was from a surprise flying knee, so it’s hard to tell exactly what level he’s at, but his record is closest to Fitch’s.
Condit is dynamic and multi-dimensional and on a roll.
But I really think the most competitive and interesting matchups for Fitch are Kos and Shields.
