UFC 132 medical suspensions and injuries for 'Cruz vs Faber 2'
The Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) today issued its list of medical suspensions for UFC 132: "Cruz vs. Faber 2," which took place on Saturday, July 2, 2011, from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
With several of the bouts ending early (and violently), there were a handful of fighters who were flagged follow-up visits with their doctors.
That includes main event competitors Dominick Cruz and Urijah Faber, who both get benched pending a set of X-rays and the green light from an orthopedic doctor following their back-and-forth five rounder that saw "The Dominator" take on the judge's scorecards.
Not surprisingly, former PRIDE smashing machine Wanderlei Silva could also be out of action until September following his 27 second knockout at the "Crippling" hands of Chris Leben.
But that's not all.
Here is the complete list of UFC 132 injuries and their medical instructions:
Dominick Cruz: Suspended until 12/30/11 pending negative right hand X-ray or clearance by an orthopedic doctor.
Urijah Faber: Suspended until 12/30/11 with no contact until 8/02/11 pending negative X-ray of right hand and wrist as well as right shoulder and chest, or clearance by orthopedic doctor. Minimum suspension until 08/17/11.
Wanderlei Silva: Suspended until 09/01/11 with no contact until 08/17/11 for precautionary reasons.
Dennis Siver: Suspended until 08/17/11 with no contact until 08/02/11 (forehead lacerations)
Ryan Bader: Suspended until 07/24/11 with no contact until 07/17/11 for precautionary reasons.
Dong Hyun Kim: Suspended until 12/30/11 pending right orbital fracture cleared by an ENT or ophthalmologist. Minimum suspension until 09/01/11 with no contact until 08/17/11.
Shane Roller: Suspended until 12/30/11 pending right orbital fracture cleared by an ENT or ophthalmologist. Minimum suspension until 09/01/11 with no contact until 08/17/11.
Melvin Guillard: Suspended until 07/24/11 with no contact until 07/17/11 (cut on lower right eye).
George Sotiropoulos: Suspended until 09/01/11 with no contact until 08/17/11 for precautionary reasons.
Brian Bowles: Suspended until 12/30/11 pending negative X-ray of right hand or clearance by orthopedic doctor. Minimum suspension until 08/02/11 with no contact until 07/24/11.
Brad Tavares: Suspended until 08/02/11 with no contact until 07/24/11 (left eyebrow laceration).
Andre Winner: Suspended until 08/02/11 with no contact until 07/24/11 (facial bruising).
Anthony Njokuani: Suspended until 12/30/11 pending doctor's clearance of contusion on lower left leg as well as chipped lower right tooth.
Donny Walker: Suspended until 08/02/11 with no contact until 07/24/11 (right eyebrow laceration).
Just a quick reminder: Fighters often return to action much quicker once doctors give them the green light. The lengthy suspensions are just a precaution in most cases.
