Don't call it a comeback!
Facing what was sure to be his final opponent in the Octagon, Tito not only beat Ryan Bader, he choked him out in the first round! Wow. As much as I dislike Tito, I gotta give it up to him last night - he shut alot of people up. And boy was he ever pumped!
Chris Leben put the axe to Wandy early in their fight and nearly killed him. The kid hits hard and now Wandy knows that. Is this the end of the road for Wandy or does he have 1 or 2 more?
In the main event Dominick Cruz used his fancy footwork and his quick hands to outpoint Urijah Faber despite being dropped a few times throughout the bout. Cruz never had Faber hurt, but was able to garner the judges favor by landing most of the strikes.
"There was a Buffalo Soldier. Stolen from Africa, brought to America. Fighting on arrival, fighting for survival."
Tuff Gong wailed his way through the standing with a solid performance and proving it just takes one event to put anyone right back in it. Welcome to the 300-Club, Rasta.
How'd He Do It?
Tuff Gong 86'd the competition last night by grabbing 22 points of the hot bout, and earning 11pts off Siver, Guillard, and Njukuani. Tuff also picked Dos Anjos for the underdog bonus. Great call there Tuff Gong Soldier, you're now playing for free.
With 80 points, Clint Eastwood put on a solid picking performance and nearly stole his 2nd $20 prize. Ulf managed to go 9 for 11 while picking the Cruz, Siver, and Njukuani decisions perfectly, he also correctly picked the Leben and Guillard knockouts. Very nice.
Rounding out the top 3 is NameNotRequired, who, like Ulf, also got 11 points for Guillard, Siver, and Cruz, but earned an additional 11pts by pickin Aaron Simpson by hug-a-thon. Gutsy call there NNR.
UNDERDOG PICK OF THE NIGHT - Tito Ortiz - Right up to the final day nobody had chosen Tito Ortiz to upset Ryan Bader, so I was a little surprised to find this morning that there were 2 players who had given Tito a shot. Well, it paid off. Watching Tito walk out to the Octagon, I felt an upset brewing. It was just the look in his eye - he was in his element. The way he looked back to the crowd - he was ready. Ryan Bader looked less focused, not nearly on the same level as Tito.
HOT BOUT OF THE NIGHT: Jeff Hougland vs. Donny Walker -A fight between 2 relatively unknowns was worth double-points for last nights card. Jeff Hougland showed some great work from guard, nearly subbing Walker a few times, on his way to a unanimous decision win.
BASEMENT DWELLER OF THE NIGHT: Onemansyn - Only making 3 picks last night, Oneman earned 5 pts off Siver and Cruz each, and finishing with...hold on...let me grab my calculator...umm...10 points. Gotahemmi also scored a measly 29pts for second-last. C'mon guys, put some effort into it.
UFC 132 Results:
Dlocc put on another solid performance this week with 77pts and taking the overall lead with 340 points. Close behind him is Clint Eastwood [spits tobacco]. With 1 event notched in his belt, Clint has kept himself near the top for the first half of the season and is only 1 point from the leader. The Greg currently holds the #3 spot after a very nice 69pt performance this week, only 2 points from Dlocc. It doesn't get any tighter than this.
