Knockout, submission, decision. He doesn't care how it happens, "Shogun" Rua just wants to win against Forrest Griffin in their rematch at UFC 134 in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil (Video). The former champion also talks about about joining Kings MMA and reuniting with his old Master, Rafael Cordeiro.

Griffin will grind him out again and shogun will gas half way through the second round.

Your not in fake ass pride anymore, griffin will break you again shogun and put your career in fuckville.

I really can't see Griffin winning this fight

A lot has happened since the first time they fought. Shogun is healthy (hopefully), he is use to the UFC rules, the octagon distance and feel. Shogun has got a bad wrap for his cardio, but that isn’t the case. He is known for being a running maniac. Shogun has better distance, clinch, and jits. I give Griffin the extra weight and thats about it. Mauricio will be ready for a heavy Griffin that just wants to wear you out. Can’t wait to see him revenge his first loss in the Octagon.

by Bluepit on Jul 21, 2011 8:26 PM EDT up reply actions

I bet you said the same thing the first time

He cant hand with guys tyhat make him work, he was gassed against griffin, old man coleman, and about 2 mins into the jones fight he was exhausted and done, absolutely pathetic. Keep living in the convenient matchmaking of pride, shogun is just another pride fighter that has a shitty record when fighting in north america.

by mma guru on Jul 21, 2011 11:33 PM EDT up reply actions

Forest Griffin is the weakest light heavyweight champ in history

This dude was champ when the light heavyweight division was fizzling out. His claim to fame is beating an off Rampage and a damaged Shogun who was told not to take the fight. Yes it is Mauricio’s fault for taking the fight injured and not healthy, but Griffin’s a joke. The only reason he is famous is for a three round fight with Stephen Bonner who I think should go to a lower promotion cause he doesn’t have UFC skills. Pride haters tell me they have no knowledge of Pride. Wait till the fight and you’ll be just like many other people praising Shogun for being the man. Shogun has lost to Jone Jones and Forest Griffin in the UFC. How is that a shitty record. And yes I left out the first Loyota fight for a reason. He killed Chuck and Loyota twice. Not a bad record in North America if you ask any half sane person.

by Bluepit on Jul 22, 2011 12:27 AM EDT up reply actions

Good points actually

I bet Forrest would love to have Rua’s shitty North American record. Plus ever since he was psychologically raped by Anderson Silva he’s been scared to fight people he fear will do the same, ie: when he was rumored to face Jones at UFC 123 he peed his pants.

To be fair in Rainbows

Since you’re policing these types of things, I’d like to point out Bluepit replied to somebody else’s critisisms first. In fact Rainbow, that somebody else was even using foul language which Bluepit did not. Furthermore, he obviously wasn’t in a “fun” mood given that I’d guess he seems to be a fan of Rua’s. I’m personally not, I just dislike Forrest since he threw his temper tantrum. In fact I bet he’s upset with you for not being more “debatable” when he feels like reciting mma facts. Wait, that would be stupid.

bluepit is 100% correct!

forrest has been marketed as this great foighter! but come on man!

very limited fighter!

all he has going for him, is competant jits (which he barely uses), good leg kicks, and size. and he use dto have a ton of heart PERIOD!

nothing else to see here folks. move along!

I would give you the same advice

Whens the last time you got a pick right? You porabaly thought he would beat griffin the first time and destroy jones.

by mma guru on Jul 21, 2011 11:47 PM EDT up reply actions

i did think rua would kill griffin in 08, but i had a bad feeling as soon as rashads weak ass pulled out and jones was pegged in as the new challenger

But rua will be looking to make a statement this fight and get revenge at the same time. He has no pressure. his last three fights hes faced machida and jones and now hes facing forrest who is no where near jones or machidas skill level.

Now its Forrest who is the one coming off a loooong lay off while this is ruas second fight in 5 months. This fight will not be competitive

Rua tko early rd 2

If Shogun comes in as close to 100% as any professional fighter can then he should defeat Forrest in style, I would love to see him get back to the top as he has always been and always will be my favorite fighter, With or without the belt

War Shogun!

Differnt story

Wanderlei is one of my favorite fighters, but he has been hit by too many hard hits. Your chin (brain) can only take so many hard hits before that knockout button becomes much easier to hit. A great example Chuck Liddell. Both of these fighters in their early days could be hit by a baseball bat and still come at you. A younger Wandy would of won, but his chin just can’t take a hit. Shogun still has his chin. I’m excited he got back with some old friends.

Wow

It’s been a while,if ever, that we’ve seen Shogun that lean.Surely his conditioning must be improved but will giving up that size be detrimental when fighting a goliath LHW like Griffin?Either way I’m rooting for Shogun.

by Spicy Chicken Wings on Jul 21, 2011 9:19 PM EDT reply actions

just noticed that as well. He looks lean and light

It was cool to see him grappling with Babalu. He was Rua first loss and it was a great fight.

Shogun will not be coming off a super long layoff and an injury+being injured during the fight

Sooooo….Yeah that should make a difference, and considering he was beating Forrest till the 3rd round I expect him to finish him mid to late first round.

If you dont like drugs then dont do them.....give them to me!

actually shogun has fought since forrest has, so it’ll be a longer layoff for forrest

mentally for getting battered and beaten

I dont see griffen running out of the octogn he will be in a deep rem state

The difference in condition

Shogun is in much better shape for this fight then he was against Jones. I’m not saying that this will make the difference in this fight, but it shows that he is more physically prepared than he was for the title fight. I have a feeling we’ll see a strong showing from both guys but Shogun will end it with a combination in the second round. Forrest is a great planner but not the greatest athlete or technician. When Shogun is on he’s an amazing site to see.

And to those who call PRIDE fake, I’ll grant you there are some suspicious situations that occurred there, but it was the TOP promotion for a while for a reason, because of the amazing fights that happened during it’s glory era, nothing fake about it.

Look how huge Jones looks,

I’m surprised he even makes light-heavy. Shit, he looked bigger than Cain Velasquez when they were on stage together.

My legs look the same and I get shit about it all the time, lol

It’s weird, I have big, long ass tendons and little softball calves. I can jump pretty damn high and can jump rope non-stop forever. My squat in HS used to be 450 and I only weighed 175. To be honest though, I’m a lot quicker than most my size I spar with and I have really fast feet. If you check out point guards, a lot of ’em have the same calve structure as well.

Forrest will have nothing for Shogun. An in-shape Shogun will serve JB Jones too. Dude is an animal when he is fit and healthy. He was going strong in the 5th round against Lyoto. Griffin will get destroyed in this fight.
