Phil Davis injured, UFC 133 fight against Rashad Evans off

Breaking news for UFC 133 ... and it's bad.
Phil Davis has reportedly suffered a knee injury in training and has pulled out of his fight against Rashad Evans, which was scheduled for Aug. 6, 2011, at the Wells Fargo Arena in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
No word yet on a replacement for Davis or if UFC 133 will get a new main event altogether but the new plan for the headliner of the promotion's return to "The City of Brotherly Love" is expected to be announced soon.
MMAFighting.com brought word of the change just a short time ago.
Davis was given a shot at Evans thanks to an injury that forced a cancellation of the originally planned light heavyweight title fight pitting "Suga" vs. Jon Jones.
It represented a major step up in competition for one of the most promising prospects on the UFC roster but alas, it is not to be. The question now becomes -- is there sufficient time to find Evans a new, worthy opponent by Aug. 6?
The highest ranked light heavyweight currently without a fight booking is Lyoto Machida, who blasted Evans back at UFC 98 to win the 205-pound strap. Rematch, anyone?
There is another name out there who is without an opponent -- Tito Ortiz. That would also be a rematch of a fight that went to a draw back at UFC 73. Up for it?

Only way that would happen is if Page pulls out of the fight. Machida vs Evans 2 kinda sucks also seeing how he clowned Evans in the first fight.
I dont , Page likes his money too much.
And hes been fighting top tier competition for years , why would Jones be any different?

Well, he did beat Bader who was a top 5 LHW (eyes roll)....
…just typing “Bader who was a top 5 LHW” makes me angry…..goes to show you how ridiculous and biased the ranking systems are…if you fight in the UFC you are automatically a top fighter…Bader isn’t better than Hendo…..probably not even better than Feijo…ugh!

that’s the first thing that came to mind, Evans vs Machida 2. It works out perfectly because since Tito beat Bader, Machida got stuck without an opponent since he was going to face Bader if he beat Tito. The only problem is they wouldn’t have a full training camp to prepare for each other which is needed with two high profile ranked fighters like Evans and Machida. But who cares i still want to see it!

that chad mendes is on the under card…he would be fighting aldo if the champ wasnt injured…and i think machida would be the more competitive fight for rashad…tito looked good but not sure if that’ll last…rashad im sure would rather try to avenge the only loss on his record

They scrambled to save fights but they never cancelled an already booked fight to save a cancelled fight flash is right Forrest and Shogun have a fight already booked in Rio a couple of weeks after the Philly card and Jones and Jackson about a month or so later. Thinking that any one of them can replace Davis is kind of stupid.

This card without Davis/Evans has nothing really worth while though. While they are fun fights none of these other fights will lead to a title fight. Plus Vitor is going to murder Akaiyama. Maybe if Cheal can step in and fight Shad on short notice lol.

Why do UFC events only have to be about title shot implications, if you only look forward to that than you are not a real fan. I look forward to UFC events because i get exited to watch the best fighters in the world, title shot or not, that’s what a real fan of mma looks forward too. Not shooting down fight cards because it has no title implications, and any real mma fan will agree with me I’am sure!

I wasn’t to thrilled after Jones cancelled but now this ! Shit we don’t get UFC here that much and live UFC is still live UFC. so, I was going anyway but damn these cancellations are getting brutal.

i think the ufc would like that idea just as much as tito, it’s win/win. if tito isn’t suspended he will be in this fight. maybe machida, but we have no idea if he’s take it on short notice. he’d have to ATLEAST double his daily piss intake.
