What other non-title match ups can Strikeforce vs UFC offer the fans?

As we all know, ever since the purchase of Strikeforce by the UFC's parent company Zuffa, the fans have talked endlessly about the match ups that could come to light between fighters from both rosters. When the UFC announced that Strikeforce Champion Nick Diaz would face UFC Champion Georges St. Pierre it came even more apparent that superfights would be headed our way.

Of course that meant that Champion vs Champion debates would ensue.

Overeem vs Velasquez, Anderson vs Jacare, Melendez vs Edgar. But why should our imaginations limit us to just the headliners meeting up in cross promotion fights? We should take some deeper thought into bouts that could effect titles in either promotion.

K.J. Noons vs Melvin Guillard

The UFC Lightweight division is so crowded that there is not even a clear number one contender. Sure, Jim Miller has been announced as such but he is still slated to fight Ben Henderson before Gray Maynard and Frankie Edgar settle their trilogy to claim a champion.

With Clay Guida defeating Anthony Pettis just last week the division became even more of a jumbled mess. With contenders like George Sotiropoulos, Dennis Siver and Sean Sherk just one impressive win away from the top of the ladder and other bringe contenders like Ben Henderson, Gleison Tibau and Donald Cerrone looking to make a statement the division is deep and it is also at a stand still.

With the injuries plaguing both Maynard and Edgar the title isn't going anywhere in the time being. So why not make the Strikeforce title picture a little more interesting?

Guillard and Noons are both quick and dynamic strikers. Noons will meet Jorge Masvidal later this month and will be primed and ready to meet Melvin Guillard at the end of the summer. Guillard will be looking to get a big win over Shane Roller in July.

Putting two guys who always showcase the beauty of the stand up should lead to fireworks. For Guillard it will help him become a a title challenger much faster then he would have waiting in line behind Jim Miller and possibly teammate Clay Guida. For Noons it allows a name fighter to really amp his ranking and standings in the lightweight division.

Win-Win in my opinion.
