The injury bug is hungry, apparently.
Martin Kampmann has suffered an injury and been forced out of his planned match-up against John Howard at the upcoming UFC on Versus 4 event on June 26 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Stepping in to take his place is Matt Brown, who was already booked for the card against Rich Attonito. Daniel Roberts has agreed to step in to fill the void left by Brown.
UFC.com reported the changes just last night.
Brown hasn't been in action since Nov. 2010, a loss to Brian Foster at the UFC 123: "Rampage vs. Machida" pay-per-view.
It was the third consecutive loss for the former Ultimate Fighter (TUF) contestant, all three defeats coming by way of submission in the second round. The "Immortal" one has lived up to his name by somehow remaining gainfully employed, but will his luck run out with one more loss?
John Howard was last seen in Dec. 2010 getting kicked around the cage by ruthless Muay Thai killer Thiago Alves at UFC 124. Before that, he was brutalized by Jake Ellenberger en route to a third round doctor's stoppage.
Those consecutive losses are likely the reason he's not getting that dream match-up against "Rumble" Johnson, who's coming off a victory over Dan Hardy.
All is not lost, however, with his fight against Brown. Sure, his job may hinge on his performance but if the past is any indication of the way he'll approach the bout, we're likely in for another show.
"Doomsday" is comin' y'all.
UFC on Versus 4, which goes down June 26 at the Consol Energy Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, will now feature a main event of Nate Marquardt vs. Rick Story.
In addition, heavy-hitting heavyweights Pat Barry and Cheick Kongo will sling leather in the co-main event of the evening.
Also on the card, Joe Stevenson will make his featherweight debut against Javier Vazquez, while Manny Gamburyan welcomes Tyson Griffin to the 145-pound division.
