Kimbo Slice boxing debut set for Aug. 13 at Buffalo Run Casino in Miami, Oklahoma

Kimbo_medium

Forget the kicking and wrestling, Kevin "Kimbo Slice" Ferguson will soon be where he should have been all along... busting heads in a boxing ring.

On Saturday, August 13, legendary street brawler Kimbo Slice will make his long-awaited professional boxing debut in the four-round main event of a Gary Shaw Productions and Tony Holden Promotions boxing extravaganza at Buffalo Run Casino in Miami, Oklahoma.

Slice became the Internet's first street-certified action hero by smashing down a series of opponents in brutal backyard fist fights. The announcement is good news for fight fans, as he will surely administer a much-needed shot of adrenaline into the American heavyweight scene.

"Kimbo was always meant to be in the ring," said Jared Shaw, Team Kimbo Promotional Advisor. "He's one of the hardest punchers in the world and on August 13, his journey to becoming America's heavyweight begins. The first stop will be Oklahoma in what will become the Kimbo Slice Express."

Star-divide

Longtime friend and manager, Mike Imber, said that Slice has been training for his debut with his longtime boxing coach Randy Khatami and also spent some time in top-rated contender Alfredo Angulo's camp, working with trainer Clemente Medina.

"He's completely focused on his boxing career and excited to showcase his talents inside the squared circle," continued Shaw. "Kimbo Slice is hungry and when that man wants his bread, he's scary."

Slice rose to worldwide prominence via the Internet and viral videos of a series of unlicensed street fights, each of which garnered millions of views. As a mixed martial artist, he competed for the EliteXC and UFC organizations and appeared on CBS, PPV and Showtime Network, going 4-2 against some of the world's best competition. Slice drew record numbers of viewers to Spike, the Ultimate Fighter and in each of his network and cable bouts.

"Even in his losses, Kimbo brought a level of excitement that few fighters can generate," said his promoter, Gary Shaw. "He is a genuine personality with unbelievable strength and character and we're excited about his prospects in boxing. The minute he steps in the ring, he'll be one of the most recognizable and talked-about fighters in the sport and his fans around the world will once again feel the excitement."

"Kimbo's been waiting for this and now it's time," added Imber.

Opponents and other matches on the card will be announced shortly. Tickets for the professional boxing debut of Kimbo Slice are priced at $38, $48 and $68 and will be available July 5 through www.buffalorun.com.

hmmm...mma to boxing.

that’s like putting the training wheels back on your bike after you learned how to ride.
like putting a diaper on to take a shit when you’ve been potty trained.

Kimbo Slice fighting for Gary Shaw Promotions.

Wow, I hope Gary Shaw is better at promoting Kimbo as a boxer than he was as Kimbo the MMA fighter. Kind of makes you wonder if Shaw remembers how Elite XC ended. Shaw is never going to see a penny of my money. Good luck.

I hope Gary Shaw is better at promoting Kimbo as a boxer than he was as Kimbo the MMA fighter

He took a streetfighter who had no business being considered elite to the top of the sport in terms of viewers and paydays. Say what you will about Gary Shaw, but if he does half the job he did for Kimbo in MMA, Kimbo will be all set.

by Deuce02 on Jun 29, 2011 6:07 PM EDT up reply actions

With all due respect.

How did that whole Kimbo as an MMA fighter thing end up? That was my point. Numbers do not equate credibility. If that were the case, Milli Vanilli would be in the rock n roll Hall of Fame. Kimbo made some money sure. But, he was exposed as a fraud. So, if that is the way Shaw handled his promotion in mma, why is boxing going to be any better? Fool me once shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Shaw is a scumbag promoter with zero credibility. Kimbo is gonna make money off the MMA fans watching him. He is a terrible boxer, and will be picked apart by a run of the mill HW. This is one too many times going to the well.

That is exactly the point. Shaw took someone who hardcore fans knew was a joke and turned him into the biggest draw in MMA. The dude made $500,000 for his last fight with Elite XC. Gary Shaw did his job well.

In no way does that make Kimbo a credible boxer or MMA fighter. But Gary’s job is to promote the man, and his successes are proven by the Benjamins that Kimbo managed to make in his short time in MMA.

by Deuce02 on Jun 29, 2011 6:21 PM EDT up reply actions

and how is it that

it is Gary’s job to make sure Kimbo wins? It is Gary’s job to sell the fighter, which he did very, very fucking well.

by Deuce02 on Jun 29, 2011 6:25 PM EDT up reply actions

James Thompson landing 60 elbows to his head with no stoppage and bribing Shamrock not to take him down constitute making sure Kimbo wins.

Shaw didnt make that call not to stop the fight. And the stand bonus is also just speculation

by PML on Jun 29, 2011 6:48 PM EDT up reply actions

No, but he’s a sleazy bastard, and I have no doubt that he was in Mirg’s ear before the fight. I actually made money off the fight just by knowing what lengths Scumbag Shaw would go to to protect Fergie.

by P-Dub on Jun 29, 2011 7:15 PM EDT up reply actions

If that was the case Mirg would have been investigated by the commission. Its not his fault Thompson doesnt have the cardio to finish a fight.

by PML on Jun 29, 2011 7:37 PM EDT up reply actions

By reading the reactions from P-Dub and PDL it would appear we all felt like Gary Shaw left us unsatisfied.

I think Kimbo being on the highest rated mma bout in history means zero. 1). Neither Gary Shaw, nor Kimbo Slice are involved in mma currently. 2) CBS was quick to pull the trigger on Shaw, Kimbo and company after the loss to Seth. So all the momentum supposedly gained was pissed away. 3) It shows how gullible most fans are. 4) Kimbo took a spot away from a deserving fighter. The mma world is better off without Kimbo, Gary Shaw and Elite XC. I would love to hear how it isn’t.

It ended up awesome. If my memory is correct Kimbo still has the most watched fight in MMA history. I would say ended up pretty damn good. Shaw is a genius and made loads of money off the guy with limited talent.

by PML on Jun 29, 2011 6:26 PM EDT up reply actions

i like the fact tony holden is involved

he was very involved in alan “sweetness” green, and zab judah. at one time he was involved with apollo productions (dale “apollo” cook, a tulsa boy who was one of the baddest assed kick boxers in the 80’s). Gary shaw is somewhat of a snake oil salesman but tony holden is well respected

by day1er on Jun 29, 2011 6:22 PM EDT up reply actions

SOLID POINT

Although Shaw comes across as a dirt bag, he did a hell of a job with Kimbo. Everybody and their mother knows who this guy is now. Even people who know nothing about MMA OR boxing know this guys name and talk about him. He holds some of the highest ratings of all time for in the history of the sport. That has to count for something.

Mark Hunt's Special Move: Oceanic Heritage! Years ago someone told Polynesian DNA that everyone was surrounded by sea monsters and it believed them. It made humans that were immune to head injuries, fast enough to run on the highway, and big enough to use the carpool lane. Putting two of them in the same ring is like telling your local tectonic plates to fuck themselves.

The world's best competition?

You mean Bo Cantrell, James Thompson, Tank Abbott,.Seth Petruzzelli, a 1-0 NFL player and Houston Alexander? Jesus, stop being so dishonest.

To be honest. A mid-30 fighter with ZERO mixed martial arts background who got famous off youtube fought a journeyman, journeyman, MMA pioneer, legit kickboxer, now blue chip prospect NFL player and a very good gatekeeper is pretty impressive with bad knees and limited talent.

I laughed at “four round main event.” I’m wondering if that’s to protect his cardio or his chin.

Just so y'all know if you come to this event.

It is pronounced “myamma” not “myammi” like Miami, FL. Just a heads-up. We don’t take too kindly to folks who don’t say Miama round these parts.

Do not. I repeat, do not, go to mma-core.com. I made the mistake of watching a couple UFC 108 bouts on there and I am still trying to get all the viruses off my computer. Ridiculous! You've been warned.
