UFC 131 drug test results are in from the Vancouver Athletic Commission (via Sherdog.com), which confirmed that all five fighters tested for illegal/banned substances have all passed with flying colors.
Junior dos Santos, Dave Herman, Donald Cerrone, Krzysztof Soszynski and Nick Ring were all screened for performance enhancers such as steroids and drugs of abuse like cocaine and marijuana, among others, after competing at the "Dos Santos vs. Carwin"-branded event on Sat., June 11, 2011 from the Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
Again, results from these battery of tests, which adhered to the World Anti-Doping Agency's International Standard for Testing, all came back negative.
Headliner Shane Carwin was also flagged for testing, however, the commission opted to not follow through at its own discretion, explaining that it "seeks to balance the guiding values of ‘fairness' and ‘fighter safety.'"
The fighters who were tested were randomly selected. However, athletic commissions often test the main event participants and fight night winners, as well as those who have failed drug tests in the past.
UFC 131: "Dos Santos vs. Carwin" featured heavyweight division number one contender eliminator match between Junior dos Santos and Shane Carwin. "Cigano" beat the "Engineer" senseless, particularly in the first round, securing a three round unanimous decision and reserving a date with UFC Heavyweight Champion Cain Velasquez later this year.
Kenny Florian made his successful debut at 145-pounds on the card, outworking Diego Nunes to also earn a unanimous decision victory and a future fight against division champion Jose Aldo. Mark Munoz, meanwhile, got one step closer to a middleweight title shot by squeaking past Demian Maia in a very technical match that could have gone either way.
