With a last minute change to the main event, Dana & Co. brought a televised event to the City of Pittsburgh. As everyone found out yesterday, Nate "the not so Great" Marquardt failed his medical and was subsequently dropped from the promotion by an obviously angry President. I'm sure there are hundreds of rumours going around, most of them have to do with PED's - which seems like the expectated case, but let's just avoid creating multiple fanposts on this subject. The real story will come out soon, but for now, lets get on with the show.
Charlie Brenneman stepped up with nothing to lose and just mucked up the Welterweight standings. Brenneman impressively out-wrestled Story to a Fitch Guida like decision. Meh, I dont blame the kid, being short notice and all. This win sure does put him on the firing line for another top welterweight..
Jimmy Conway: [Grabs telephone cord and chokes Morrie] You got money for that fuckin commercial. Fuckin' commercial, you don't got my money, you don't got my fuckin money, huh?
Henry Hill: Jimmy, he'll pay, he'll pay.
Jimmy Conway: I'll fuckin kill you, get the money, you fuckin' cocksucker, you hear me?
Jimmy Conway: Pay me my money!
Ok Jimmy, you're gettin paid.
How'd He Do It:
BNF choked out the competition going 9/10 with an impressive 17 point lead from 2nd place. Surprisingly, the British National Front picked Kongo to win, earning 10 points. Whats more impressive was BNF's solid perfect picks on Oliveira, Mitrione, and Lauzon - all finishes! BNF means business.
With 71 points, going 8/10, Deuce02 made some solid picks gettin the perfect 11 on a few decisions in Attonito, Tyson Griffin, and Vazquez. He also called a 2nd round KO for Meathead. Good pickin Deuce.
Rounding out the top 3 is a three-way tie between GriffinFan, TheGreg, and PHISH_NATION. All 3 went 7 for 10 with 70 points. All 3 made great calls with Lauzon by first round sub, as well as 2nd round KO for Mitrione. GriffinFan and TheGreg also called Johnson's 1st round KO. Good stuff boys.
UNDERDOG PICK OF THE NIGHT: Matt Brown - with only 2 Maniacs on-board, Matt Brown outworked the heavily-favored John Howard to unanimous decision victory. Brown entered the bout losing his last 3 by submission, Brown saved his job, while Howard might've put himself in the unemployment line. I'm not sure which 2 savants picked Brown, but I'm guessin it was some permanent basement dweller's desperate attempt at a comeback. Put you're hand up.
HOT BOUT OF THE NIGHT: Cheick Kongo vs. Pat Barry - Kongo pulled off a near-death Pete Sell-like knockout in the very first round - which I'm still fuming about! I had a $20 parlay on Brenneman and Barry that was supposed to pay $270. I was seeing dollar signs when Miragliotta was hovering over Barry about to stop the fight (he even put his hands on Barry!)...then boom! Everything came crashing down. I lost it all, and fell down the ladder in the pool. Meh, I'll just chill with Sarah & newfie down here for a week. Congrats to the 22 pt winners - I'm not even sure if there are any of you out there.
BASEMENT DWELLER OF THE NIGHT: the pride - 11 points is pretty damn embarrassing, and nothing to be proud of. And yes, he did submit all of his picks. The Pride got 1 fight correct, calling Lauzon by 1st round submission. If it wasn't for the pride taking this bullet, it woulda been Miss.Mania in the Hall of Shame.
UFC LIVE: Kongo-Barry Results:
Phish has overtaken the lead by a slight margin, with Agar and The Greg closely behind. It's a real tight race near the top, but this is a marathon and we still got a longs way to go!
