Hard-hitting middleweights Robbie Lawler and Tim Kennedy will sling leather at the upcoming Strikeforce: "Fedor vs. Henderson" event, which will emanate from the Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates, Ill., on Sat., July 30, 2011.
The promotion announced the 185-pound showdown earlier this evening via its official Twitter account.
Lawler was last in action this past January in San Jose, where he was chomped up by "Jacare," submitting to a rear-naked choke in the third frame.
That loss continued the streak of win-one, lose-one that "Ruthless" has been riding since July 2008.
Nevertheless, he'll climb back inside the cage against the man Ronaldo Souza defeated to become middleweight champion just one fight before the 185-pound king ate up Lawler.
Tim Kennedy will make his way to Hoffman Estates having just defeated Melvin Manhoef this past March 5 at the "Feijao vs. Henderson" event in Ohio.
The former Green Beret got back in the win column by dragging the super-slugger to the floor and choking his victory out of him.
It was his first fight back since his title loss to the previously mentioned Souza, a close five-round decision defeat. That combined with the fact that he's won five of his last six bouts, not to mention to lack of depth in the Strikeforce 185-pound division, could mean this here fight is a veritable number one contender bout.
Stay tuned.
"Fedor vs. Henderson" will feature former Pride FC heavyweight champion Fedor Emelianenko in the main event of the evening, attempting to rebound from two consecutive losses by taking on current Strikeforce Light Heavyweight Champion Dan Henderson in a non-title attraction.
