Better late than never.
With little more than one week until showtime, Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) today announced a late addition to its annual Independence Day weekend pay-per-view (PPV) extravaganza.
Octagon newcomers Donny Walker and Jeff Hougland will hook 'em up in a bantamweight scrap set for UFC 132: "Cruz vs. Faber," which is set to go down at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, on July 2, 2011.
Walker is the winner of seven consecutive fights on the regional circuit, finishing Billy Vaughan with a rear naked choke submission in his most recent performance at NAAFS: "Night of Champions 2010" in Dec. 2010.
Old "Eagle Eye" has fought several notable fighters throughout his 21-fight professional mixed martial arts career, including Jeff Curran and Cub Swanson. However, he was on the wrong end of submission losses on both occasions.
He'll look to extend his win streak, as well as earn the right to fight the best the sport has offer, with a triumphant performance over "Hellbound" in "Sin City."
Hougland, who is also no stranger to winning lately, has strung together eight straight since a shaky (1-4) start to his career. The "Rumble on the Ridge" veteran most recently dispatched of Craig Ross via submission (guillotine choke) just last month.
He also unsuccessfully tried out for "The Ultimate Fighter" 14. Perhaps that was a blessing in disguise.
UFC 132 features a main event between bantamweight Champion Dominick Cruz and his 135-pound arch enemy, Urijah Faber. Ryan Bader and Tito Ortiz are also slated to hit the mat in a light heavyweight bout.
