Strikeforce: "Overeem vs. Werdum" last night (June 18) from Dallas, Texas can be characterized quite simply as one of the ugliest events of the year.

There are many reasons for this, from the main event snoozer pitting Alistair Overeem vs. Fabricio Werdum to K.J. Noons busted up and battered face to Justin Wilcox turn as cyclops.

Adding to the carnage at the American Airlines Center is Conor Heun, who broke his arm in his fight against Mango Almeida, as you can see in the somewhat gruesome picture above, thanks to Tracy Lee for Yahoo! Sports.

The kicker? Heun actually fought through his injury and went on to take a unanimous decision win on scores of 29-28 across the board. There are some folks that totally disagree with the decision but no one can question the grit and toughness exhibited by "Hurricane" in this fight.

Interesting side note on Heun: he's fought just three times over the past three years, all of which came in the month of June (19 in 2009, 16 in 2010 and 18 in 2011). And after consecutive losses to Jorge Gurgel and K.J. Noons, this was a victory he badly needed.

An emotional Heun explains talks about the injury and how he hopes to be an inspiration after the jump.
