The opening contest of the Strikeforce: "Overeem vs. Werdum" event featured a heavyweight throwdown pitting two aging but capable veterans that like to put on a show.

And while it wasn't as exciting as advertised, Chad Griggs put in yet another outstanding performance, defeating Valentijn Overeem via technical knockout in the very first round.

However, it should be noted that the "Python" tapped to strikes -- the referee simply didn't see it while calling the contest.

This marks the third win in a row for Griggs, who has won more and more impressively each time out.

The fight opened with Overeem attacking with a head kick but quickly turned into a clinch game initiated by Griggs. After pushing his opponent up against the cage, the "Grave Digger" reverse slammed the Dutchman to the mat.

Beginning of the end.

Overeem attacked from the bottom, grabbing an arm and twisting it up but Griggs was never in trouble and fought his way through it, eventually pounding him out for the stoppage win.

Not the expected start to the show but hey, it's a first round finish, right?
